I can't be arsed to find the post about the 1 million in Japan right now though.

Considering the controversy around the game and the fact that the series has been somewhat been MIA since 2008 (we had some side games and HD collections) its actually done quite well for itself. If word of mouth is good then it should hopefully go on to be the best selling MGS of all time.
I know they are different franchises and MGS is much more established but Witcher 3 went on to sell 6m in 6 weeks so with MGS seemingly having a similar if not bigger opening I can see it reaching similar numbers rather quickly. 6m sold this year for MGS would most definitely be a success for the franchise.

Well that was already decided before it went on sale if these are just shipments.  Sales, which include digital copies, probably overshaddow MGS 4.

Remember VGC only recorded 1.8 million sales for MGS4 week one from a 3 million unit shipment.  I think its safe to say that The PS4 version has probably passed that. 

But that was 3m on one platform. Here we have 3m across five platforms. Sold through can be the same or just over 2m, but again, across five platforms.

5m sellthrough first week is just silly. But on the quoted, I think it's probable only if it's lifetime since we can safely assume half of the 3m is on PS4 and it's only first week. We can very well see 2.5m shipped on PS4 by the end of the year. I suppose it would have to be 3.5m+ shipped to see it though.

But thats the point.  Sold through can be any number.  Total sales can exeed shipments with digital downloads.  Sold through could even be less than with PS3.  It could be anything that you can logically explain.  THis announcement only tellss us that they put 3 million copies into the wild.  I mean we don't even know the shipment breakdown.  We just know that the the PS4 version sold more than every other platform... and probably combined several times.   If you lump the PS4 and PS3 sales together, the other platforms barely even register.   

Nice, the game will more than likely exceed 10 million across all platforms easily..... Unfortunately they alienated their fanbase a lil bit by making this game after peace walker.... Which no one played

Highly unlikely for any game to do that on console, non have done that that I know of, so no chance. With that said, seeing as how it is only launch there would still be a margin of soldthrough and shipped. Again across five platforms, we are looking at most 2.5m between sold through and digital downloads. PS4 can be 50-60% of this (1.25-1.5m).

All IMO. And we speak on launch. Numbers can be updated again, if like Witcher 3 just 2 weeks! So then it will be passed the MGS4 first week mark.

Which is why the game should have been PS4 exclusive.This game will bomb on PC (like most games) and sell low on Xbox like before.Last generation won't generate much sales either as most 360 fans and PS3 fans are move to PS4 really fast.These numbers are not impressive at all.
