To cite pokoko in this very thread: "It will probably sway a few people here and there who need to sell their old console to get a new one but don't want to sell their games. Everything positive adds to the collective appeal of something you spend that much money to buy."

Additionally it may be more convenient to play your old games on your new console. The new console is probably properly attached to your current TV, the older ones may  be removed to the attic. Or worse, the older ones don't have HDMI yet, while the new one has. Little conveniences like that can have a big effect.

I disagree, playing ps1 on a crt tv with composite cables looks better than playing ps1 on a ps3 via BC, because that's how it was intended, HDMI gives the ps1 resolution nowhere to hide its limitations.

Just something about using the proper hardware, too.

For people that will sell their X360 to fund an X1, this is a dream. No need to clutter the TV space with two hardware.

I really though this thread was going to be about Borderlands 1 coming to Xbox one :(

So what you're saying is that it matters as much as 1080pr?

You hit it right on the head.  After reading that and the other articles over the last couple of months, the OP kind of came to me.

It is near the end of the end....

BC definitely matters to some, it definitely doesn't matter to me personally, though. My PS3 had BC, and i think i literally used it for the first 2 or 3 months, until i had enough PS3 games to keep me busy.

Backwards compatibility is always a good thing. The issue lies in what type of backwards compatibility. For me, Hardware emulation is the far superior choice. Software emulation is great, but not every game you have ever wanted to play is guaranteed.
