As it stands now, no matter how good the devices are, they are just me too android devces lost in the shuffle. Sony needs to merge their mobile division with PlayStation and make innovative mobile devices, that actually stand out. A real PlayStation Phone with access to PlayStation Network and software from SCEWWS, EA, Activision, Take-Two, etc. would be an industry changer. Offering the device in a Vita like form factor along with the current Xperia form factors would give them something for everyone. Hope these devices struggle, and make Sony go back to the drawing board, and doubl their efforts on the one Sony ecosystem. |
They actually tried something f like this with the xperia play. A smartphone dedicated to gaming is something pretty niche, and to work needs to be really well done. N-gage was like the best phone of its time, but due to strange design choices it wasnt appealing neither for gamers or people that just wanted a phone.

The Xperia Play was a device full of issues though.
First, it was not a Sony Computer Entertainment product, nor was it a Sony propper product. The XP was a product forced by Ericsson during the Sony-Ericsson years. Sony wanted nothing to do with the product, as they didn't want Ericsson haveing any ties to PlayStation. They even created a whole seperate store front and ecosystem with PlayStation Mobile to keep the device off the real PlayStation Store. The play never had access to real PlayStation Network (Trophies, Friends, Messaging, online gaming). It also never saw any software released by Sony, EA, Activision, Take-Two, Konami, Capcom, Sqaure-Enix, etc. it was a straight up bastard child that Sony and SCE completely ignored past the annoncment of PS Certification and PS Mobile.
Second thing, the device ran on a crappy version of the me too OS. It constantly crashed from the most basic operations. Try to text, system crash, try to listen to music, system crash. I also had an issue towards the end of my nightmare with it, where it would randomly try and call people over and over, which doesn't sit to well with people, especially when they get 9 calls in a row between 1:30AM & 4:00AM. Had more than a few very angy voice messages and text after this happened about five or six times, then I finally decided to get rid of it and get the Xperia Z.
I don't think dedicated gaming devices are a niche market. The PSP and 3DS sold almost 250M units. The problem is, no one has offered a full fledged gaming phone with 100% support and dedication. That is why a real PlayStation Branded phone would succeed. A real PlayStation Phone that had access to the real PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store, and the full backing of Sony and SCE would be a device that was in the spotlight. It would be seen as areal phone and a real console, and not some half ass attempt between the two. This would give both consumers and software developers confedence to pursue the platform. Having it available in current Vita form, and Xperia Z form would make it a device that could be enjoyed by both the hardcore gamers, and the non gaming crowd looking for a way off of the me too OS.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter.
