Forums - Nintendo - What kind of sales for Mario Maker would disappoint you?

It's a full priced 2D Mario game with a level editor included. I guess LBP should be shunned as well?

I will never understand why games with limitless content are treated as lesser than those with limited content.

It is a few level designed using the tool and the tool itself for a full price, it should be 40 U$ AND yes the same applies for LBP.

The content is limitless if you have the time to design the levels yourself I don't, the game is produced by PAID professionals, it should not depend on amateur gamers to be fun or long. Will there be some fun levels? yes I asume there is people with enough time and talent to get a few right, but I don't see the point of chasing those few gems in a sea of mediocrity.

I won't be offering this game to my community which usually means paying full store price which is around 25% extra for the game, maybe that will make them think twice before buying it.

Anything less than 4 million will disappoint me.

Go big or go home!

It has to sell more than 2.5 million to be not dissapointing

REQUIESCAT IN PACE

I Hate REMASTERS

I Hate PLAYSTATION PLUS

Below 2.5 million would be disappointing.

It will be lucky to break 5 to 6 hundred thousand in Japan. Or will it?

Then Europe will be around Japan's sales.

1pt COMG IS NOT 1.000 pre-orders.

And it will sell more than 500k Japan alone

~70 premade levels is hardly a "few." On top of the fact that there's also the 100 Mario Challenge Mode, the number of levels is infinite and it comes with the Collectable Booklet, I very much believe this game has more value than any other 2D Mario game. Were those overpriced as well?

And you don't have to design a single level if you don't want to. Just play ones that other people have made. It's simple.

Your logic is astounding to me. Would you have been fine if they had just released New Super Mario Bros. U 2 or whatever without the level editor? Why does that make it a worse game, and on top of that, devalued? Furthermore, why should the game sell worse simply because you don't think it's up to your standards in value?

I would much rather have this game, which I could easily sink 100+ hours into than a story-driven game with no replay value that ends in 12-15 hours. But hey, I guess that's just me (and the millions of people that will buy this game, anyway).

Yes I do think 2D marios should be cheaper and some of them were overpriced specially the Wii U one, it should be around 40 U$, but I got it with New Super Luigi U for 20 U$ which I think is a good price :D

No I would not have been fine with New Super Mario Bros U 2, but I would rather have that at a reduced price than an overpriced level editor. Or you know a full game with a level editor and not just a bunch of sample levels.

By the way they asked for what kind of sales would disappoint me, and since I don't think this game deserves big sales at full price, is logical that huge sales should dissapoint me, right?

You have every right to want this game, and I have every right to not like it, those are just tastes. Sure it will sale a lot, but that does not mean it deserves to sell a lot, or that is a good investment proposal for many and i just on their side in this argument.

Having kept a close eye on both Amazon US, Amazon Japan, and COMG!, I have to say that this one is a bit baffling.

Considering that it is Mario, I would have imagined that it would have been doing better by now, and while it's not doing terribly, the worrisome part is that it has been effectively stagnating in its positions since it has been up for pre-order.

If I were to make a guess as to why it isn't setting the world on fire, it's because Nintendo isn't advertising well enough that the game comes with pre-made levels. As it is, I think there's a lot of misinformation that makes it seem like its not worth its cost, as I'm sure many people would just think a simple level editor by itself is not worth 60 dollars or so. That's just my guess though.
I honestly don't know what to expect from Mario Maker though. It's entirely possible that it has an underwhelming first week, but maintains strong legs, as LittleBigPlanet and Minecraft have. It's also entirely possible that the game's proximity to Metal Gear Solid V have shifted attention away from it. Whether that is valid or not, we may still see it pick up a lot of pace in its last few days.

I think if I were to give it a numerical value for it to not disappoint me, I suppose I would say about one million. I know this is less than what most other people have said, but none of the trackers seem to indicate that much interest in the game. The one bright side is that it does seem to be doing well, pre-order-wise in the US, especially once you remove MGSV and CoD from the equation.

This game could sell 100K, and I'd be cool with it. I have no interest in this game whatsoever.

However, I do like the Fall/Holiday line-up for Wii U. Yoshi, Star Fox, Guitar Hero, Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario Tennis - wow. I could buy 5 games this season, that's more than I've ever bought before.
