Prepare for "it deserves a higher meta", "it doesn't deserve a meta this high", "site X is crap and always fail at their reviews" etc.

Good times ahead!

This is an exciting release though, it's the first really huge (not counting remakes here) release for the PS4 since it launched.

I think I can count quite a few big releases the PS4 has had since its launch and now...

Only one that comes to mind for me is Destiny.  Discounting all the standard annualized fair of course.

Well all the annualised stuff is still big releases.

Besides those I would also count Bloodborne, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Batman: Arkham Knight, Far Cry 4 & Dying Light as big releases.

Nothing in the magnitude of Metal Gear Solid. Dragon Age is not a huge deal on Playstation compared to MGS, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy. Arkham City has done well but Arkham Knight will probably sell a lot less and Batman has far less impact and relevance on PS than MGS as well, Bloodborne is a lot more niche and won't sell nearly as much as MGS, Dying Light has yet to crack 1 million.

Only Far Cry 4 out of those you mentioned is provably huge, as in on the same level as MGS (and now Destiny).

Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo, and since the PS3; the Uncharted series, has been the go-to franchises for the PS brand, even when made multiplatform, these are among the games that define the entire image of Playstation. Almost every single title above MGS 4 on the PS3's top 20 best seller list are annual franchises like Assassin't Creed, CoD and FIFA, which are more tokens of the industry as a whole and not seen as the same pillars of identity for the PS brand.

So, to be more clear; MGS 5 is the first of the big three (or four) on the PS this generation, with Final Fantasy following a bit after and hopefully GT 7 sometime in 2016 or 2017.

But those platforms didn't get the 4th MGS and will thus not get the whole story, so they won't be interested in it and the game effectively becomes PS exclusive... it was a stupid joke, lol.

Still the game should sell software and PS4s like hotcakes, so the fact that the game exists and releases on PS4 is still to a degree a huge get for Sony.

Funny that you joke with this. Had it had not been for the HD version (and the lucky ones that got the Legacy version), people that don't own a PSP or doesn't like playing on one would miss the direct prequel to The Phantom Pain, and the one the story heavily relies on. :P

The post I was referencing specifically discounted remasters and such.

Reviews more than a week ahead of release surely signal that developers expect a high metascore.
This also will give the undecideds enough time to preorder...

...can't wait for a 40 from an obscure website, though...

Yeah, I didn't play the PSP games either, maybe I'll catch up on the story of that one via Youtube before I play the 5th game
