Forums - Nintendo - I want to buy a New3DS, but...

...but I have some concerns before buying it, so I want to ask you guys first. I currently live in Tokyo, so the price for the console and games are much cheaper, 18.780 yen (136 euro circa) for the New3DS XL and 2400 yen (20 euro) for used games. Problem is that the 3DS is region locked (damn you Nintendo!), so I could only play japanese games. I understand the language enough to enjoy games (I think), but I'd like to buy games in English too. There are ways to avoid region locking, but I don't want to overcomplicate my life. What do you suggest me to do? And if I finish buying it, what games do you suggest me to play? I already saw a tempting Luigi's Mansion 2...

Would it be too expensive to import, because that would be the easiest option

Well, the region lock won't go away (damn you Nintendo!), so you have to choose.
How long will you be in Japan?
If you're here for a longer time and plan to buy many games, get one here.
If you return to your country soon, importing every game might be a bit bothersome.

This all wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo got their sh*t together.

I have a Japanese 3DS and Wii U, but I'd love to get a few English games that aren't available here. *sigh*

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

I believe Nintendo wants you to learn Japanese.

I heard somewhere that there is an F-Zero-like game coming as an exclusive to the N3DS E-shop in october/november and the game is made by English developers. I don't know if it's coming outside of Europe so you should definitely inform on it, it might be crucial in your decision since you Might be an F-Zero fan and I believe this is like the 3rd Exclusive for N3DS that has been announced by now...

btw non credo che gli inglesi capiscano "circa" asd

The whole region lockthing is what's real bothersome.

I'd say get an American one, since I can tell that you'd strongly prefer your games to be in English.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

theres a region bypass that uses a youtube exploit if you want to play eu/us games on a japanese system.

Mmm... I'll try to have a look at it, thanks for the advice!

In realta' la parola circa esiste in inglese (al momento non mi venivano in mente altre parole), ma viene usata con le date, quindi ho sbagliato lo stesso, ahah!

buy online a EU 3DS, and buy games via eShop digitally so you don't have to pay extra yen on imported games. Or try to look around in retail gaming stores if they are selling EU 3Ds with not so drastically high price.

There are some hacks that can be used to get rid of the region lock, like this one
