Beloved Jim Sterling? The guy who gave Deadly Premonition a 10 is going to tell us what video-games should be like?

Nah.

I prefer the system of letting people make what they want. That way, all sorts of tastes can be represented and I can play what I like.

That review was a joke:

"This game is so bad, it's not just become good. It's pretty close to perfect."

It´s called humor, english people have it, you know?

And even if it wasn´t a joke, a bad review in 5 or 6 years is not a reason to discredit someone.

It's ... not a joke.  It's the official review and he loved the game.  Try reading it again, you know?

If he liked it then he liked it, I don't even care about that.  The point is, he loved a game many other people hated, and I bet just about everyone can say the same.  That's why the qualities that makes a video-game good are entirely relative.

Who dictates what a videogame should or should not be. If ppl want to use games to tell a story and ofer minimum gameplay they should go ahead and do it, if ppl dont like it dont buy it. If theres a public for it why should anyone think theyre entitled to say theyre not real games.

While I agree that the definition of "video game" should not be restrictive, that doesn't mean any games or genres are above criticism. These walking simulator games that Jim is criticizing can often very much be criticized for the lack of player agency, lack of interaction and lack of anything that actually draws you into the game.

Walking simulators are fine. Just don't call them video games if they have no fail state.

So Animal Crossing is not a videogame??

Animal Crossing is definately not a videogame... it's more a Real Life Mayor Simulator.

Animal Crossing IS a videogame, there is no debate about it, the fail state DON´T define a videogame, interactivity does it.

Walking simulators ARE videogames, and that´s why they should be judged as videogames, for good or for bad.

If there is no game over screen in AC then by my definition it is not a video game. That's not a bad thing. I imagine there's a degree of challenge in AC though, I've never played one and I hate myself for it.

So Animal Crossing is nothing, it´s on a limbo right? No

There is no "my definition" here, a chair is a chair, a videogame is a videogame:

"A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV screen or computer monitor."

Walking simulators are inside that definition.

But Deadly Premonition is one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

Never heard this term before. Love it.
