Forums - Gaming - X1 gamers: How you enjoying your awesome Nintendo.....errr Rare games?

I've played 7-30 games so far, most not for too long. I've spent most of my time in Banjo&Kazooie (just finished the mechanical shark level), and Battletoads. If it wasn't for the rewind feature I would have given up on BT by now.

Even with the rewind future the game can be an absolute chore at times. How anyone found enjoyment from that game back in the day astounds me lol

Dude...Sony has more successfully purchased studios that they revamped and turned into their own opposed to Microsoft. Sorry, but if I were to take your words as fact I would've been misled. Sony directs their companies better.

Dude, Sony has experienced a lot of failure. Sony has closed numerous studios, Rare is still alive and had success under MS.

Seriously, just give it a rest. You are getting worked up because not all of us hate Rare under MS.

Seriously, you're acting Microsoft hasnt closed studios either. Sony has made more successful first party IP's without outside help then Microsoft has ever made themselves and that is a fact. Microsoft never talks about Sony's IP's because they want to replace them and be the end all be all in the industry, but deep down they respect them, hence why they spent so much money on Tomb Raider and Ryse. Games that emulate Sony's style of development but still cannot seem to match up with the real thing. The only true genre Sony has not covered that Microsoft has always owned because of Halo is the FPS genre and truthfully it shouldn't even matter as long as COD is available and SF5 is on their console. Thats where the majority of gamers will be, but it doesnt mean Sony cannot produce their own fleet of IP's and as I said before they passed Microsoft and Nintendo in IP  last gen in 2011 and continued to steamroll them there as well. Not only will Sony outdevelop Microsoft again this gen but they will have a larger library to boot.

P.S.

I dont hate Rare under MS. Killer Instinct is one of the reasons I love my Xbox One, but i'm sorry I would have to say I am lying if I believed Rare did anything special with Microsoft outside of the Kinect. Kameo and Pefect Dark Zero were as good as it got and thats not much compared to their time with Nintendo. Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie, Wave Racer, Killer Instinct, Battletoads and much, much more were titles brilliantly executed while being second party for Nintendo. Microsoft is just doing what they do best and thats buying everyones IP's because they have the biggest wallet. Thats the reality. They have accomplished nothing in terms of being an IP development force. All of the games they got their hands on were coming away, and only needed a publisher.

With that said....Microsoft is doing a commendable job of keeping the Xbox One stocked with amazing games even though they haven't had a major exclusive in nine months. I am still enjoying it much more than my PS4 because of my backlog that I've built up since last Christmas.

I'm not acting like MS hasn't closed studio, I'm saying lets stop pretending every studio Sony gets its hands out puts out gold. Naughty Dog is Sony's standout studio. Their others are meh to me, a few gems here and there. More GT, more God of War, whatever...

I think MS and Sony respect each other. I've seen on numerous occasions people at MS giving kudos to Sony when they release a notable game. Sony on the other hand is more likely to take jabs at MS while selling parts of their company. :-p

Wave Race wasn't Rare. Battletoads is arguably their beat NES game, but they were multiplat at that point. You like PDZ and Kameo. I enjoyed Banjo:N&B, Viva Pinata, and Kinect Sports series was solid. I respect Rare for their innovation during the 5th gen, but the games were grossly over rated. I think revisiting those games in Rare Replay has reminded people how horribly acclaimed Rare games have aged. Meanwhile their 360 games look impressive in comparison and some people are going to realize those Xbox Rare games arent bad.

Sony has bought numerous studios because those studios did what internal studios weren't doing, making good IPs for Sony. Its almost like Sony didn't have talent until they started buying studios (more Blasto please). Sony could have bought Rare as well, but they were saving that money for Zipper Interactive and Psygnosis (RIP). Also, you give MS a lot of crap for buying stuff but Sony is/was a big company, they've thrown a lot of money around as well. I feel like Sony has sold things off just for money hatting.

Rare games on Xbox were pretty good especially if they were a new IP like Kameo/Viva Pinata. Their N64 games except for the Banjo Games are almost painfull to play. The camera controls and other small issues make it almost frustrating to play.

Anyway the N64 was always the Rare 64 console for me. The N64 would have been very weak gamewise without Rare KI/PD/Goldeneye/Diddy Kong Racing/Donkey Country 64/Banjo K/T/Conker... Their would be only Mario64 and Zelda left.

Well Banjo N&B is a collectathon. But that game didn't feel as tedious because you're often building or tweaking vehicles to complete missions.

I own both Rayman Origins and Legends. I started Origins, had some fun with it, but moved away to play other stuff. Its certainly something I plan to revisit eventually. I like to try a lot of stuff in hopes of finding something I enjoy regardless of genre.

I'm glad to hear that. You should definitely go back to Origins, it's a very fun platformer! Legends is even better, it's actually the best 2D platformer I've played in the last 15 years!
