That's the thing, I'm not gonna agree something was good simply because it was popular. A lot of the N64 era games aged horribly which shows those games had major issues even at release. My favorite thing about Rare Replay is it shows I was right, most of those classic Rare games were over rated and almost unplayable by standards of today.

For me, the best of Rare was DKC and KI. MS doesn't have DKC but they have KI and that lead to one of greatest fighting games ever. All the amazing talent of Rare left and did what? Nothing notable. Rare was and still is a fine studio, but they were over rated.

When I was younger it wasn't about popularity, Rare was on the losing team and it still compelled people to buy new consoles. Goldeneye sold just as much as the first halo. Rare is no longer a fine studio  imo but a shell. Luckily MS doesn't have to make them recreate all of the nostalgia  games. Their only good game to me on any xbox platform was killer instinct and it wasn't even made by them. Then again I've been spoiled by Nintendo and sony first party growing  up so I guess it's a little unfair to expect the same from microsoft.

Weak argument, N64 like many platforms had an audience without being the most popular platform. I had a Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, and OG Xbox because they had some gems.

Your argument is pure bias. You won't acknowledge Rare's Xbox content was actually solid simply because it didn't have the same success as their Nintendo games. Rare brought good content to Xbox, Xbox simply lacked the audience that wanted those games. Its like Japanese games on Xbox, the games can be good and still sell poor because the audience simply isn't there. Those same Rare games that were on Xbox would have been very successful on Nintendo consoles.

I don't have your same nostalgia goggles. My favorite games on old Sony and NIntendo platforms were generally 3rd party (Street Fighter, wrestling games, etc). The 1st party games I primarily enjoyed as a kid were Sega games. I mean c'mon, Dreamcast's 1st party was legend.

I've had more fun with Xbox 1st party then I've ever had with Playstation 1st party. But hey, you're entitled to enjoy whatever you want.

Its not a weak argument. Microsoft never had the first party credentials to run Rare properly. Give Rare back to Nintendo or Sony and they will make something out of the resources better than Microsoft. Microsoft has always had the worst first party and the other companies dont need to buy other peoples IP's just to have hits.

If Sony ran them Rare would probably get closed or sold like numerous other studios.

They would have done fine under Nintendo making the same games they made for MS. Because the Nintendo audience enjoys their style of games more. We've seen that time and time again. Casual, family friendly stuff with a 1st party push has generally done very well on Nintendo.

Sony has bought numerous studios to get hits.. and got rid of numerous studios for not making hits. If you like linear cinematic experiences Sony is great, they are amongst the best at that. But MS makes enjoyable games that are more fun. Its not even a matter of who makes better exclusives, MS objectively just makes games that are more fun.

Dude...Sony has more successfully purchased studios that they revamped and turned into their own opposed to Microsoft. Sorry, but if I were to take your words as fact I would've been misled. Sony directs their companies better.

Again, subjective.

I'd rather sit with their Xbox content than most of their other games. I'm sure many feel the same given how poorly much of their past content has aged. Tolerating pre Xbox era Rare requires a lot of nostalgia. Especially given how much of their N64 content that received acclaim was actually garbage.

But hey, you're entitled to your opinins no matter how wrong they are.

Wait...is this serious? Is this really happening? Microsoft Rare has had exactly two good games in Viva Pinata, and Perfect Dark: Zero. The rest is at best mediocre (Killer Instinct) and at worst an abomonation(Kinect Sports Rivals).

Oh, and we don't talk about "Nuts & Bolts" in this household.

Spoken like someone who never played Kameo! Oustanding for a launch title!

Dude, Sony has experienced a lot of failure. Sony has closed numerous studios, Rare is still alive and had success under MS.

Seriously, just give it a rest. You are getting worked up because not all of us hate Rare under MS.

There seems to be two sides with Nuts and Bolts. People that wanted a traditional Banjo game hate it. Those of us that think the original Banjo games sucked like Nuts and Bolts. It also depends how much you like building stuff to complete missions. Bottom line, for that type of game its great.

Kinect Sports Rivals was solid for a motion party game. Again, it just depends on your interest in that type of game. I had more fun Kinect Sports than most Rare games.

KI 1 and 2 are well above mediocre. Especially if you actually know how to play them. That series was very popular and there was demand for more.

Why exactly do you dislike the original Banjo games? Because they are platformers or what?

I just find them boring. Slow, tedious gameplay. I found Mario 64 more enjoyable but I didnt play through it. Rayman 2 was a great platformer in my opinion, I played that on Dreamcast but I assume the N64 version is fine.

I enjoyed Sonic Adventure games, far from perfect but solid.

Im a fan of Castlevania games like SOTN and the GBA/DS successors. Shadow Complex is also one of my favorite games.

Banjo N&B is a platformer with vehicle building mechanics. I bet that game would have been more appreciated if it were Mario N&B.

I guess you don't like collectathons then? That's alright. You should give Rayman Legends a try since you like Rayman 2! Trust me, you won't regret it.

Well Banjo N&B is a collectathon. But that game didn't feel as tedious because you're often building or tweaking vehicles to complete missions.

I own both Rayman Origins and Legends. I started Origins, had some fun with it, but moved away to play other stuff. Its certainly something I plan to revisit eventually. I like to try a lot of stuff in hopes of finding something I enjoy regardless of genre.
