IMO, no boots on the ground is a mistake. I understand Obama's reluctance, but IS is a much bigger threat than Iraq ever was. It's a cancer that is growing. More and more people get brainwashed by these fanatics, all over the world. The sooner we can get rid of them, the better.

I understand it though. The war in Iraq created the grounds on which ISIS could come into existance. There also has to be a political, economical and social solution ready to be deployed.

Ugh this is disgusting. I really hate ISIS, especially when they seem to have a ''Our culture is superior'' and look down at us and our ''immoral actions'', yet things like this happen.

Put boots on the ground where? Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Algeria that's not even inluding sub-saharan African countries where ISIS operates.

Yeah nothing is going to change in the next years if countrys "only" try to defend their borders or do some random airstrikes here and there.

The only regions ISIS has a strong unchallenged grasp on and use to fund all their actions are primarily the vacuum they filled in much of Iraq and Syria. Most governments can handle their own defenses outside of that, especially if they are evicted from their money making territory. Yemen is a mess but doesn't pose the same threat.

It's their muslim "brethren", kurds, yazidis and turkmens that gets "looked down on" and get butchered. The only westerners that get killed are the journalists. They can just leave middle east and go back home to their families. The others, on the other hand, have no place to go 'cause they're already at home.

ISIS will never reach the west. We will never feel their brutality as the people in Middle East have.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

I agree but we'll have to wait til a republican gets into office to take ISIS down. Obama's Airplane only strategy isn't really working.

The republicans main priority is Iran. As Netanyahu said; "Iran is a bigger threat than ISIS".

It's actually funny because Iran is fighting ISIS. Oh and one more thing; ISIS wouldn't exist if USA (under the republicans) didn't invade Iraq. And the support West gave to the rebels in the Syrian Civil War were the seeds of the creation of ISIS.

All I want is a blending of the two. The Republicans feel they have to hate this treaty with Iran publicly as elections approach (I have no doubt they'd be defending it if it happened under a republican administration, such as all the treaties between the USSR/China under Nixon, Reagan, and Bush Sr.)

A Republican attitude towards ISIS while adopting this democratic-backed treaty with Iran would be ideal. Working with Israel and Iran to really hurt ISIS would certainly help the cause, even if each nation has its own separate reasons for doing so.

Indeed. In the absence of western powers (I.e. a universal bogeyman in the region to draw their focus) those old Arab-Persian, Sunni-Shiite, Turks-Kurds... Basically everyone verse all others animosities that date back centuries reemerge. The Ottomans were able to deal with this via clever provincial structuring and keeping them mostly apart, but when the British and french chucked that idea and redrew the borders it's just been a simmering mess ever since, waiting to boil over.

This vacuum left by the Arab spring in Syria and US withdrawal from Iraq should surprise no one, but what DOES surprise me is just how unbelievably brutal this group is. Their end game seems to be the apocalypse, and there will be no treaties or "bringing them to the table" like there was with groups like the Taliban. They're blackmailing the world via creatively horrific acts to come fight them.

Disgusting.

That is so sad and disgusting. And there are still people that support IS. Al Jazeera had a poll, and 81% of the respondents said they support IS!
