Tagged games:

Luigi, Roxas, Paper Mario (Shut up, it counts), Crash Bandicoot.

I'm now filled with determination.

Around the Network

If we are talking about influence, Pac-Man, Mario, Donkey Kong and a Space Invader. If there were five I would add Sonic or Link. I would argue there is at least a strong possibility Mario and the like influenced FIFA as without Mario, there may not be a FIFA or the developers involved may have never been interested in programming video games.

If we are talking about personal favorites it woulr be Mario, Link, Samus and Sonic.

If we are talking about series rather than characters it would be Mario Platformers, Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter and Halo.

For people who influenced the industry I would go with Nolan Bushnell(Atari), Shigeru Miyamoto(Mario, Donkey Kong, Link), John Carmack(DOOM and the FPS genre, I know he didn't invent it) and Will Wright(Sims, Sim City, simulations games).

There are a thousand ways to come up with this so no answer is really wrong.

Mario, Link, Mega Man, Pacman

Mario, Link, Dragonborn (Skyrim) and Pikachu

Samus Aran
Mario
Nathan Drake
Aeris Gainsborough

Around the Network

Luigi, Link, Squirtle and Kirby

Uhh Mario, Link, Samus and Donkey Kong anything else is just stupid. There is not a game today that doesn't take some inspiration from one of those games.

You sure about that? You want to explain how those characters inspired FIFA then? Or Civilization? Or how about Danganronpa?

Pfft.

DK's got you well covered on sports. Remember this little gem?

You want turn-based strategy? Try Famicom Wars, starring none other than the beloved Samus:

What's next? Interactive fiction? Mario's done it all, from text adventures in Mario Is Missing...

To writing your own novels in Mario Teaches Typing:

Their effects have spread throughout all of gaming. Do not be afraid. Embrace it.

Miyamoto, Iwata, Yokoi and Sakurai

Great choice, I would change Sakurai by Sakaguchi, but great choices indeed!

As for gaming characters: Mario, Sonic, Link, Pac-Man!
