Ah, another Gothic fan, always nice to see that.

I completely agree of course, for me Gothics are better open-world RPGs than Witcher in almost every aspect, but "specialness' of their melee combat, as well as age, can put a lot of people off.

I do feel slightly dissapointed that Witcher 3 is not as brilliant as I hoped for - after all, Gothic was major influence on devs and I hoped they would make something comparable, while retaining good stuff from W2. In the end, it was still pretty good game and honestly, in this climate, I can't blame CDPR for trying to make bit more mainstream game, but I'm hoping that CDPR, now that they went through first open-world game, will revisit fantasy setting sometimes in the future and dig a bit deeper - both metaphorically and literally (given how horizontal W3 tends to be in certain areas).

yeah i do agree. I read a interview with some developer from cdProjectred 1-2 years ago where they also said that they took alot inspiration by the gothic series. The Gothic series was a big thing in east europe ~10 Years ago. Most of CdProjectRed developers do know/played the series.

But at least they included some important things that where typical for the gothic series and still uncommon for many modern action-rpgs (quest design, no loading screens in buildings, No leveling monsters, no respawning monsters, dark fantasy world setting, day/night and dynamic weather system, swimming and diving).

But Witcher 3 was alot like Gothic 3 for me. many things i didnt liked in gothic 3 (compared to gothic 1&2) are the same i dont like in Witcher 3. Its just impossible to make an vast open world as interesting as a smaller world like in gothic 1&2. That was also a reason i never really liked the elder scrolls series.

Unfortunaly the Gothic Developers didnt do as awesome games in the past (the risen series was mediocore at best). They are working on a new game called "ELEX" at the moment and it will be shown at gamescome next week. im very excited!

Well, I find Risen 1 to be very good, Risen 2 was decent, 3 was there just cause of their contract with Deep Silver, still OK experience. I was kinda bummed to see ELEX instead of new Gothic, but honestly, I'll take anything from Piranha Bytes - their games always have some quirks, but I also always find them immensely enjoyable.

OP: having "Demon's Souls is the worst game I've ever played." in your signature severely damages your credibility.

The witcher 3 does respawn monsters, drowners and wolves aways come back. (Geralt even jokes about the drowners) Guards level with you to be always 10 levels or so ahead. I went back to the starter area to teach the soldiers in the encampment a lesson, unfortunately they had all levelled up to lvl 35. And plenty of story missions have infinitely respawning foes to urge you on.

Fallout NV did a very good job at making a large open world interesting with multiple outcomes and factions to align with. I had expected W3 to be more like that after W2, yet it went with 3 pre-baked endings depending on some unclear decisions. Kinda like Metro 2033.

not for me because a lot of the things you listed as pros i consider cons. + the main character so uninteresting i'd rather sabotage him than helping him through the game. just like kratos.

Nope, not imo.The game is filled with bugs and pop in's even after the numerous patches. The story is ok not complicated at all and the combat is ok as well. The world is big and beautiful I'll give it that but the simple things it gets wrong are so frustrating, that it's not even funny. But as I said it's open world is probably second to none.8/10.My contenders would be Bloodborne and Fallout NV.

Your statement is so contradictory...

1. You're an RPG fan yet you refuse to play this RPG

2. You haven't played it yet you could judge that the game isn't good already.

So if you're an RPG fan, you should try this first before passing judgment, correct?

I don't refuse to play it, I just don't have a PS4.

I'm giving my opinion, haven't played Bloodborne either but this one gave me a way better impression.

Yes, it would be better to play both to judge it, but I don't need to be sble to give my opinion about what I think of them already.

Um.. You have a PC don't you? Nothing's stopping you then.

Sorry, but replaying the exact same area with the exact same enemies with the exact same encounter with the exact same content more than 10x in a row as a gameplay mechanic....

That's what makes it the worst game I've ever played. I like hard games myself, and I always play every game at max difficulty, but the Souls series is carved on repetition. That just doesn't make any bit of sense to me.

Xenoblade Chronicles and Dragon Age: Origins just to name a few...

It has definitely set the bar and game of year for sure (only Fallout 4 left to even compete with that title), but I definitely do not consider the crafting "deep" by any stretch.

I don't know man I think it is close between it and Bloodborne right now for game of the year.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...
