That's more likely going to happen for Sony or Microsoft. |
There's no way Microsoft can go out of business ( Phil is probably swimming in money as we speak & they want windows to be popular for gaming, which XB1 is part of ) Sony on the other hand...yeah their in trouble, if they don't manage to sell a ton of PS5's.
I think you're underestimating, how much Nintendo would suffer if they lose their handheld sales. Sure they still have a lot of WII/DS money left but there's only so much failures a company can have before saying enough is enough.

Well, we are in a videogames site at the end... so...

I don't think so. Nothing can save the Wii U, so they're better off making something new. The NX will be a new console but I don't expect it to come out in 2016 like most are predicting.
That sounds terrible. Giving a system that's failed capabilities that probably won't be relevant to the mainstream.
Holiday 2016 would mark 4 years since the release of the Wii U. Most consoles from Nintendo have lasted about 5 years. This one would mark 4. Below average but not a ridiculously short lifespan. 2016 will be fine for Wii U.
That's an interesting idea, though I somewhat doubt it could play both Wii U and 3DS games

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
| GribbleGrunger said: I was thinking about the recent announcement of DQ11 and the fact SE have mention it could be coming to the NX. How soon could the NX release though? It seems odd that SE have said that both the 3DS and the PS4 versions are targeted for a 2016 release, so why not assume the NX will come out in 2016 too? But wouldn't that be too soon? Wouldn't a lot of people who bought the WiiU feel a little 'used'? How could Nintendo possibly avoid that? I would say that there is a possibility the NX is being designed to exist 'alongside' the WiiU but how would Nintendo be able to do that? The solution could be quite surprising. Here is my possible solution: The NX is an add on for the WiiU. It replaces the controller and has its own built in chipset. It also has updated connectivity with the WiiU to give it PS4/Vita capabilities. Everything made for the 3DS is playable on the NX and everything made for the WiiU is (obviously) playable on the NX. So: An updated, larger 3DS and a updated controller for the WiiU that allows long distant streaming of WiiU games and plays 3DS games natively. |
Releasing hardware add-ons, specially in later life cycles, is shaky business. Risks consumer confusion and splitting userbase.
I can't say a definitive "no" on this happening, I have no claim in knowing the mindset of big corporations and what they allow/bet their company on doing.
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

For the majority who think it won't be a digitally focused, cloud-based, unified platform of home and handheld consoles, yeah, it definitely will be out of left field.
To me, however, it will be all according to plan. *cue evil laughter*
Square-Enix wants to put DQXI on NX because NX has a portable (3DS successor) at the center piece of it. The console is just gravy.
If the NX portable can run the high end version of DQXI, it will probably be the best selling version of the game, because the PS4 is not portable, and we know which of the two versions Japan is most likely to choose in that case.
