Forums - Gaming - Now the rumors can finally stop: NX is a home console, and not a "fusion/combination" device

Not sure how anyone can read into this too much.

Game hasn't even been announced for the NX and people are now estimating hardware specs from it.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

With today's announcement or DQXI for PS4, as well as for 3DS and NX, it is clear and obvious that NX will actually be a straight up home console, just like all the others before from NES to WiiU.

It is not a fusion device (why make a 3 DS version), it is not Android, it is not any freak of nature...just straight up TV console.

Well, by the time the NX comes out, the 3DS will have a 60m userbase, so I don't think that fully debunks the NX Fusion.

Then again, I'm going to defend the Fusion idea until its fully and oficially debunked.

It's official.. they said more like brother and sister..

"Finally, Iwata said he remains unsure if the form factor of its next platforms will be integrated to establish some kind of hybrid system. Instead, he said the opposite might be true; that the number of form factors could increase in the way that multiple devices can run iOS and Android. This will all depend on consumer demand, he said."

Nintendo got lucky with the Wii and Its unlikely that they will be so lucky with the NX. Plus the console would release during the peak of the X1 and PS4's lives, so it would be even harder for Nintendo to convince people to buy it.

I wouldn't count on it too, but I will let myself be surprised by them. If they did it once they can do it again. Or, at least, they could sell better than this gen. They could come with a new and amazing concept which will sell a lot of hardware. We don't know yet. But, yeah, failure is another option too.

I like your optimism . I don't want to keep my hopes up only to get disappointed when Nintendo reveals it, so I'd rather keep my expectations low and if they do release a great console then I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah sorry but this clarifies nothing. Your logic is like saying, because game x is coming out on PS3 and PS4, the PS4 obviously cannot be a home console because Sony already has a home console. By the time the NX launches the 3DS will be 5 years old and have a large established user base that cannot be ignored by a developer.
One might even say ,that because the game is making it's way onto both home consoles and handheld, it would be a perfect fit for a fusion console/handheld device in the NX.

Don't be so pessimistic, we don't know anything about it yet! :). They made an amazing comeback in the Wii/DS days, I think that Nintendo is capable of do something great.

I'm sorry but I hate it when people just brush off the success of Wii as nothing more than luck, it's honestly such an ignorant way to downplay it, they came up with a sound strategy and had strong execution.

I'm not denying that Nintendo did a great job making and supporting the Wii, but if you look at the trend of Nintendo's console sales, the Wii was kind of an outlier. If you exclude it, there is a clear downward trend in sales. And the Wii was the most different from all of them, trying to target casuals.

STOP

This doesn't prove anything and Nintendo themselves are saying things like "Both the Wii U and 3DS still have install base" and "It is not meant to replace either the Wii U or 3DS"

Seriously. STOP. This is NOT confirmation of anything.

Yeah preferably I'd like only one home console per generation as well.
It'll be really nice if NX gets PS4 games. Especially a game like this. Not sure why they are reviewing the possibility of releasing on NX. Could be that Nintendo aren't sure about the specs yet, lack of development tools, or maybe they're just cautious about how successful the platform will be. But it's good to hear that it might happen.

It's good, at least, to hear that it's not completely turning off third parties at this stage. This could be a hint at the NXs third party offering. It will be interesting to see the first western multiplat confirmation.

There's a 50% chance that the first western game announced to NX will come from Ubisoft, so you can start making guesses: Assassins Creed or Just Dance?

None of that had anything to do with luck.

"success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions", that is the definition of luck and that does not describe the Wii.

At E3 2005, Iwata talked about how there were many demographics not being catered to in the video game industry and that they were going to make a console that was for everybody. He also mentioned how with rising development costs many studios would go under and that their console would be a place where developers could create games that don't need to sell in the millions to be profitable. Nintendo read the market and came up with a strategy accordingly. That is literally the opposite of simply getting lucky.

I don't really think that proves it's a home console, but it sure points towards it.

I'm not sure what it is..
