I don't think this disproves anything, but apparently, it does prove that Square Enix has some confidence in this console, so I sure am hoping this means Nintendo is going to do things right this time.

Exactly what I was thinking..It could just mean the NX is a hybrid handheld/console and will play the 3DS version...
Reggie said in an interview "our next home console, codenamed NX" and people still don't believe it. At this point the only thing that would "prove" it to gamers is Nintendo actually showing the console. Nintendo never talked about a fusion console and these rumors have been entirely made up by the internet community. People hear what they want to hear.
Chips are getting so small and powerful nowadays. We want a handheld with TV output.
NINTENDO why you no listen?
A straight up console... I pray for them, I expect it to fail miserably. How are they going to convince the consumers to buy another "WiiU", just more powerful and without the tablet?
That's all the proof i need.
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
- George Orwell, ‘1984’
DQ XI will be a version for both Wii U and 3DS which can run by NX
It could just mean the NX is a handheld and it'll be getting a HD Remaster of the 3DS version.
Yeah, to play the Devil's Advocate here, Wii and Wii U both got Dragon Quest X, NX could be the next gen of 3DS. But I do think NX is the next home console and will replace Wii U next year.

Ok, I think I understand what you mean now but let me tell you why I don't think it would work. The form factor of a handheld allows for a very limited power output. Imagine the most powerful handheld devices right now are flagship smartphones. There is simply no way you could take the best, most expensive top of the line smartphone and run any modern console/computer game. The ones you can usually are so graphics and processor intensive that dry out the battery in an hour or so (not mentioning the fact you'd need oven mints to hold it because of heat output). The reason why there is the need for a console in the first place is because it's the most cost effective/power gaming device that can at the same time dissipate the heat and take not be constrained by limited batery constraints. So you're left with 1 of 2 solutions:
1- the console is so weak that a handheld can perform at the same level (literally running the same games), in which case why do you even need the console? 2- the console is indeed powerful enough to do modern gaming and your handheld is simply a screen that receives the image output from the console and takes your input to play the games (same solution as game streaming between PS4 and PS Vita). I literally think these are the only 2 options of this 'fusion' concept. None of them is ideal, but both are possible within reality as we know it. |
I think Nintendo can manage to pull off a handheld that runs games with a bit less power than the PS4, technology advancement sure has gotten far
