that is making a huge assumption... NX being a home console.

I remain unconvinced of this. How long has the 3ds been out for? how long has the wii u been out for?

which console successor is more likely to come out first?

the DQXI making it's way to the 3ds successor makes sense, not for a new home console platform from Nintendo with the added cost of development to a 0 people install base

Because if the NX was solely a handheld only it'd have BC and be able to play the 3DS version next year on launch, they wouldn't need another version.

the next handheld doesn't necessarily need to be BC, but could still use assets from the 3DS version, making it still very cost effective. just an upgraded version would be enough to differenciate it from the old 3ds version

The'd be no point because a handheld would play the 3DS version anyway, much like how some games on N3DS have upgrades when run on the newer hardware they could implement that and save a tonne of money that way. An NX version indicates a console like platform as DQX is also being moved over to NX along with a PS4 version, this indicates they want to migrate Nintendo console owners as NX replacing Wii U would mean the biggest following for XI would be left behind.

Again, you're assuming BC which may or may not be the case, especially if you take into account the rumored Android OS running the hardware. If they do change the architecture of the handheld it may not be cost effective to keep any kind of BC in it.

You're assuming the NX is getting the PS4 version of the game, but if that was the case I would see no reason why they wouldn't also announce X1. The NX would need to be designed in a similar x86 architecture as the PS4 (and X1). The fact that at the time this possible new Nintendo console will have 0 install base, it would make no sense to port the PS4 version to it but leave out the X1.

I can much more easily see the situation i mentioned before being reality. Re-use the assets from the 3DS version and see it on their new just released handheld

I doubt it, Nintendo consoles lack the proper audience for games like Final Fantasy XV, or that's what I hear all the time.

It will sell near zero in Japan, so it has a lot more sense releasing it first in Japan on the NX/PS4, and then, maybe, a port on the X1 if they localize it. And I'm not so sure if it will sell very well on the X1 on the west...

The argument you're trying to go for would lead to this scenario hence BC, a dedicated handheld would not have android or anything because Nintendo's handhelds perform just fine and the's little reason to change things especially with the competition drying up, it's the console side of things that constantly change for Nintendo. This would mean the same type of architecture as well meaning easier BC, android would make no sense in this regard, why reuse assets when BC already does that, even with a different architecture if a 3DS successor had Vita like power it would be able to emulate the predecessor as the jump in power would be more then enough to do so.

You know why X1 is unlikely to get a version? 95% of DQ fans are in Japan, the was a rule with the franchise that the best selling platform is where the franchise would go. I'll bet you 1000 quid in what ever currency NX outsells X1 in Japan, MS themselves would have to step in to bring DQ to X1.

I don't see it. DQ and FF are 2 completely different beasts. DQ seems to be made to run on many different platforms. Could probably even run on any mobile or browser in 2D mode.

Believe me, I predicted DQ for NX.

I predicted DQ XI for 3DS, NX and IOS. Better that now punk.

OT: I think those aren't coming to the NX though. Maybe FF XVI and KHIV could if they get released before the NX dies.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Possibly, assuming the NX port is the console version (which makes most sense imo). I think launch schedules will be important. Dragon Quest for consoles may not arrive til NX is out, so a port makes a lot of sense. Final Fantasy XV however will probably proceed it by a long while.

Unless NX is more powerful then PS4 I don't think they'll be too much point in giving a late port to NX. The audience for that game will be on the PS4 and unlike dragon quest FInal Fantasy's biggest market is the west by far.

So is this a serious thread or not? That last point kind of puts this in the joking side.

A NX version of KHIII could happen, but I'm not too sure about FFXV.
