Still Upgrading on day 1

The solution you're no doubt refering to does not adress any of the problems I mentioned. |
But I have no problem with having the computer updating while I'm asleep, and there will be updates that gives users more freedom. For the average user this will not be an issue in any way.
This is a part of the Windows as a service track they are on. It's supposed to keep everyone on the same version of windows at all times to ensure maximum compatibility etc. In fact only users of the enterprise version of Windows 10 are able to choose whch updates to install or not install.
I get why some people are concerned but really we already use devices that make use of this policy on updates so I don't think this will be a big deal. VBesides the updates are tested by users before they are released as mandatory updates. Yes, there might be an update here and there that might be an issue but it'll get sorted out and fixed. I for one am upgrading day one on all my PCs because it works great and let's be honest a real step from 8/8.1 and while in some cases even 7 especially if you have a touch device. This is a non issue for a majority of W10 users as most will likely be running pro and you can delay updates "for a time." Also I'd like to point out, you don't have to pay $99 for the pro version if you are already running pro or ultimate versions of 7/8/8.1.
But hey, if you are uncomfortable, wait. Just don't wait until after July 29th, 2016 ;)
Not long before someone disables it. I'll make sure to get it when that happens.
Not being able to choose when you want to install an update is quite troubling indeed. Hopefully Microsoft offers a much better solution than the one currently provided.

No big deal for me. Keep forgetting to turn them off right now anyway so you just adjust for them.
I'll be trialling Windows 10 on my laptop before upgrading my main desktop. It generally looks positive but I want to see how stuff like this works out.

There is already a way officially. It's located here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
This is a great feature and long overdue. The majority of users don't have the technical knowhow to ensure there machines are correctly updated and even the relatively low risk of a failed update is better than not doing them. something like 30% of machines are malware infested and it is directly due to people that turn off updates, don't know how to do them or are just ignorant of the issues. IF you are tech savy you can easily disable the updates or block them or just use a professional version.

Windows updates in the past have had notorious outcomes, one example I think it was XP Service Pack which had a massive impact as it blocked online functions in games and the wasn't an official fix for a good amount of time so people tend to wait before installing updates.
