First of my games arrived today, and the packing slip was marked with big bold words "ITEMS CANNOT BE RETURNED TO Toys'R'Us/Babies'R'Us STORES", heh.

I get stuff from the online store frequently. The real issue is that many of the items from the online store aren't carried in the retail outlets. If you have a Toys R Us receipt and you go to a Toys R Us that carries the game you've purchased, there shouldn't be a problem.

I WANT A WII BUT NO STORE EVER HAS THEM :(

An analyst today mentioned that he thought RockBand would do 80,000 units - this year.

Even with the revenue multiplier, not even close to Guitar Hero.

I think its going to keep selling for a long, long time though.

Luckily for them it is the sort of game that can overcome a slow start and do very well in the long term.  Good "word of mouth" advertising can do a lot, but then again the fact that only 1 in 4 people need to own it out of a group of people could kill the "word of mouth" effect a bit as people prefer to just go play with a friend at their house rather than actually purchase their own copy, particularly considering the price tag and possible console purchase attached with it.

I'm not sure how this works in other stores, but the 60 and 80 GBs are definitely more popular here - however, this could be because I always emphasize to customers that the 40 GB cannot play PS2 games. Yes, this does tend to be a pretty big deal to a lot of people, but it's quite possible other stores see different reactions or that they simply don't bother explaining it all to people (I often spend 2-3 minutes talking to customers about their different options).

Very interesting.  Sony seems to believe that backwards compatibility isn't an interest to most people, or that they'll buy the 40GB PS3 assuming backward compatibility.  When someone like you actually spends time to inform customers about the product, it seems they believe backward compatibility is very valuable since they're throwing money at it.

I hope you find one sdfa, and welcome to VGChartz!

hey Bodhesatva, out of St louis eh? I work at the Sears down in south county. You haven't said which store you work at did you? (not sure if you want to reveal that). I keep hearing people are surprised that Toys R Us gets a lot of Wii's, its because they have a strong relationship with Nintendo.

For example we have a very strong relationship with Sony. We carry maybe 4 or 5 Wii's (when we have them), 4 360's and when it comes to Sony systems its insane. We have 7 80gb ps3's on order and about 20 40gb ps3's coming in, doesn't sound like a lot compared to Bodhesatva's numbers but for us at Sears that's huge. Nintendo probably gets a stronger revenue from Toys R Us then say from circuit city or best buy so they stick to what works.

TRU was a launch partner with N this time around, so they gave Nintendo preference with regards to certain things.
