Forums - Nintendo - Realistically, how powerful can Nintendo's next handheld & console be if they release at $199.99 each?

Wii U isn't $300 because of how powerful it is guys. It's $300 because there is a lot that goes into making the Gamepads. Those are expensive to make. Nintendo said it themselves that the majority of the cost is the Gamepad.

I think people giving too much value for cost of gamepad, ofcourse that Wii U will be cheaper without but I think difference would be only around $50. So instead $300 price it would be around $250.

Probably a more powerful APU than PS4, like an 8 Core Puma CPU (about 40% more capable than Jaguar), with a 2.5TF+ GPU, 2-4GBs of HBM clocked at over 200GB/s, 6-8GBs of DDR4 for the console.
It'd probably be more energy efficient than PS4 and XB1 using 14nm parts.

Easily doable at the end of 2016 in a home console, if it doesn't come with some funky controller system or an additional handheld in the box.

As for the handheld part, at $199 it'd be comparable to any retail tablet out at the time, mainly because of the energy output of batteries.
I'd think around Wii U levels would be possible on the move and in a system a bit bigger than a large 3DS.

I see people totally disconnected with reality.... yup - stronger than the ps4 with a handheld at half the price from the super greedy Nintendo.... and all this after the complete screw-up / fuck-up / disrespect that the Wii U is. Keep on dreaming and enjoy your Amiibos.

Ex Graphics Whore.

Depends when its releasing but being profitable at $199 will not afford a ton of power, even in 2016.

I'd presume

Console: slightly weaker then Xbox One
Handheld: Slightly more powerful then Vita.

Why do people think it would be weaker than the Vita? For 200 in 2016 it would be much more powerful, particularly considering products this year, 2015, already are.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

OK, but home and handheld consoles always had very different price point because of power and cost for them.

I cant see why you think that NX handheld and home console will have same price? Home console will clearly have much more stronger hardware than handheld, because of that it will be clearly be more expensive.

I thinking around $250 for home and around $150 for handheld console.

Whats that based on? We all know the console will be stronger but not everyone expects it be signifcantly so.

In which case the handheld could also come with a  built in  HD touch screen (possibly 3D), an additional screen (if Ninty sticks with dual screen), A portable battery, built in camera etc. $50-80  more spent the home consoles GPU, RAM and CPU+controller will be balanced  by money being spent on the handhelds screen and other functionality.

In the past there have been huge multi generational gulfs between the power of Nintendo's home console and handheld systems, which is why there is typically  a big price difference.Of course if you think we're going to get a 300Gflop handheld and then a 2.5 TFlop home console, that doesn't apply. But most people seem to be thinking the NX home console is going to be weaker then the X1 and the handheld will target Wii U specs.

Based on every previous generation!?

Thats fair, as I said a lot of people are not expecting a traditional generational leap from the home console (much like the gamecube to wii transition), but a big one from the handheld (DS> 3DS). That would place them far closer together then any previous co-existing Nintendo systems. So  you're expecting the NX home console to compete (or surpass) with PS4 or X1 in specs? Just curious.

This is mu point of view:

Handheld will be probably pretty stronger than 3DS because 3DS is so weak and next handheld will need to have much better resolution screen.
Home console probably little less powerful than Xbox One.

Thats if we assuming that NX is one home and one handheld console, but I think it one hybrid device with power somewhere between Wiiu and Xbox One.

I just don't think that the console will be at $199. I'm thinking it will be around $299-349 with power on par or maybe even surpassing PS4. But the handheld? I can definitely see it going for $199 and should be more powerful than the Vita. But power won't be the thing that moves either console. It will be the ability to play both handheld and console games on the same device with cross platform play.
