Forums - Gaming - Digital VS Physical

I want the discs because a) faster to install, so managing storage is better, b) physical goodies/CEs, c) just because file size is the same in some consoles, doesn't mean it's the same on all. Vita is a perfect example of physical being advantageous, d) redacted because it'd take too long to write about legal matters

Physical >>> Digital for me. I'm a sucker for collecting physical discs.

I think a digital ecosystem will be the NX's great "Wii-like" innovation.

There's honestly no good reason to stick with physical, and honestly, the masses will never move on on the console side completely until one of the big 3 has the balls to light a fire under our asses and force all digital on us, much like Apple did with the iPod.

Microsoft almost did it, but they wimped out at the last second, mostly because it was poorly executed. I think the NX, specifically the NXDS, will try it next. Let's see if Nintendo can execute it better. I think the rumbling have made it clear that they seem to at least be on the right track.

The mass majority of "gamers" sell their games for credit toward their next game. This is why all digital will fail and why the original Xbone's anti used game stance failed.

I love having physical so I can stack and hold the boxes, feel the weight, just have so many. There's nothing to me that's quite as satisfying. But switching out the discs can become annoying if I want to play multiple games in a session. The digital games that I do have remove that problem, but with game sizes these days, not having enough space can become another problem (especially if you own a Wii U).

bet: lost

I go with whatever's cheaper. Normally though physical is cheaper for the games I'm looking for, especially with the best buy gamer club thing where I can get a new game for 20% off, so most of the time I end up with physical.

There are many ways to circumvent that, and Steam and mobile are both perfect proof that it can be massively successful. Like I said, the original XBO was poorly executed. Bricking your console completely when not connected to the internet is stupid. Steam doesn't do that. Mobile doesn't do that.

All it takes is one good execution for all digital to take off, just like it did on PC and mobile. It's only a matter of time, and if my preditions are correct, it'll be as soon as next year with the NX. There are plenty of ways consoles can get around the used games issue. For PC, its frequent sales. For mobile, its cheap starting price. For Nintendo, I'm 100% sure it'll be their new membership program, which will encourage people to buy more by making games cheaper via a rewards program.

"Benefits of owning Physical:

- Ownership of a game"

There we have it.

I don't mind either. This gen I've bought 90% of my games digitally but I just buy the cheapest option.

For me I'm going mainly Physical with the exception of insanely cheap digital games on sale. At the end of the day I just prefer having something that I actually own and can use when ever I want regardless of whether the store/company is still around and allowing me to download/use their game.

Digital, IMO, makes it feel like you never really own the game.

Of course it's cheaper sometimes. You aren't paying for a disc and a box as well.

However, I just prefer physical. No one can change that regardless if the pros outweigh the cons.

Also, you don't have to buy external hard drives or anything. DLC and the size of games is increasing at a fast pace.
