This holiday, I think Nintendo has good reasons to re-market Super Smash Bros for WiiU and 3DS.
Here are my new reasons why:
1. New content is still being delivered.
We get online tournaments in the near future. We just got new DLC characters and there's more on the way. All creating new reasons for new players to jump in
2. Not everyone has both versions.
There's a large swath of 3DS owners who probably love Smash bros, but now want to play Smash Bros proper.
3. Amiibo + GC adapter stock situation is improving
You can find GC adapters in stores now for $20. This was unheard of a few months ago. Amiibo are getting larger initial stock from retailers.
4. Settle it Smash!
... This marketing campaign if revived a year later with the right humor and light-heartedness towards the grudge matches Smash creates could be pure gold.
5. Because it's the game that'll expose the highest number of people to WiiU / 3DS alike.
Smash appeals to hardcore and casual gamers. A year later, I feel like this is still *the* game to whip out when friends and family are over if there's a WiiU around somewhere.
6. Because it's overall the best title for pushing Amiib, DLC, and controller sales.
Smash has the most paid DLC of any Nintendo title and really makes the most extensive use of Amiibo so far. Smash more than any other game inspires people to buy a lot of other stuff mentioned here. If I were running Nintendo, I'd promote the hell out of the game that gives me the most follow-up sales and profits with my customers.
Do you think they'll market Smash Bros all over again this holiday?
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
