Forums - Nintendo - Fire Emblem: RD impressions, first few hours

Ok, so finally my most anticipated game is in my Wii and it's great! Everyone that loves strategy and RPG's should play this game.

A few impression from the first few hours (spoiler free, won't describe new members):

1) Is's HARD!!! In the prequel Path od Radiance I can't remember dying until chapter twenty-something, Radiant Dawn is a lot harder, I had to replay chapter 3 and 4 several times. (Playing on normal of course). I think it's like PoR on hard.

2) Graphic wise it's worse than PoR. The movies are very beautiful, much better than PoR, but the it's harder to distinguish the characters on the battlefield. Maybe because in PoR there was more diversity in the party from the beginning.

3) Sothe is like Volke on cocaine. This guy is amazing, but steals a lot of stat points by killing everyone that attacks him. His evasion is amazing as well. I forgot he was in PoR as well, probably because he didn't make the team even once.

4) The stats of the others are very weak, even Nolan can't survive 3 attacks in a row, Micaiah, Leonardo and Laura are terrible. Edward somewher in between, but his attack is damn low.

5) Can't say a lot about the story yet, though it's interesting to play with Daein after playing PoR. Also nice to meet some characters from the GC game already.

I'll continue playing now, but if it continues this way, I'll spend way over 40 hours to complete this one.

Question: In all my anxiety to start playing, I forgot to load my PoR save file. Does anyone know what the benefits of this are? If it only increases support I won't bother redoing the chapters, but if it triggers better endings I'll start again.

Just wanted to dispute point #2 up there with you. It would be extremely hard for Nintendo to make the graphics worse for this outing. The engine used is pretty much identical to the one in PoR. Maybe you are using a different setup than you were using when playing PoR, and that is the reason it looks worse.

Just kiss the tip.

I have both games while neither PoR or RD are exceptional when it comes to graphics. RD looks better. Its not a huge difference but the game has a slight detail and significant animation advantage.

If two units that got an A support from FE9 and you do a transfer data to FE10, then get a +5 to crit/dodge when standing next to each other.

You need to get to lv 20/20 on FE9 to do stat transfer (aswell as having maxed caps)

Say if you get maxed HP in FE9 for say Soren, then Soren will start off with 5 more HP then he does in FE10 without transfers.

Max HP = 5 HP in FE10
Max other stats = 2 to that stat in FE10.

Tnx for that. So it makes the game a little easier. I won't start again, will do that on my second playthrough. I never used Ilyana and Sothe in PoR, soit doesn't really make a difference yet. Too bad for Soren, cause he was definitely maxed. We'll I'm not there yet.

Arkk: I didn't mean that the graphics are worse technically, it's that I have difficulties distinguishing the different characters on the battlefield, that's why I feel they're a little bit worse, so more a design issue than a technica. FMV's are awesome though. The fake widescreen in the dialogue screens made me laugh hard. The widescreen is of course an improvement over PoR.

Yeah, I found the "chain heal" (nice one viewtiful) as well. Feels like cheating a bit, but who cares.

WoW: Yeah I know Sothe is a promoted class already, but if I take away his weapons totally I have the feeling I'll get slaughtered. Now I'm a bit further less so. I use him as less as possible, but sometimes he's really handy In PoR I didn't need Titania at all in the beginning, but Sothe was pretty important in Chapter 3.

I'm one of the few who really like the Laguz. I know their levelling is horrible, but I like their strenght. Only beast tribe though, I hated the birds. I had Mordecai and Ranulf often in my party.

Actually the bird with the spikey hair(ulki or something like that from what i remember) is great, seeming he has a skill which gives him 20% more avoid and 20% to dodge (more dodge = less chance of getting crit hit).

Isn't the DS version better though? Anyone played it yet?

Around the Network

We only found out about the DS version during Oct last year. There isn't a release date for it besides 2008 for Japan.

The DS version is a remake of the first Fire Emblem for the NES/Famicom. It never appeared outdide Japan.

Yeah for those of you still early in the game and worried about the story...fret not. The game really has a great story progression as you get deeper into the game...and it is a fairly long game.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I just finished it on Normal a coulple of days ago. It was awesome. Section 4 was awesome and I lost like 10 people in just the last few chapters. I just restarted the game on Hard mode. Im almost done Section 1 again. Listen to all the people above that suggested levelling up Eddie and Nolan. You'll need them a lot later on.

BengaBenga, when you get to the "tower", message me and I'll give you a few extra tips that will make things MUCH easier.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.
