Forums - Nintendo - Will the next CEO of Nintendo make powerful consoles to their fullest? Since Iwata has passed away?

Thinking about it more, I think the next President may be one of the higher up's prodigies. I have a feeling it will be someone relatively young, at least compared to Miyamoto, Takeda, and Iwata. They will choose a visionary. Someone who loves games and has good leadership skills.

Honestly, I think Sakurai would be perfect. He's 44, doesn't want to make Smash anymore and hasn't for a long time, has deep ties with Nintendo, has excellent leadership skills, has respect for the other consoles, and has the respect of all of Nintendo's leaders, especially Iwata. He's a visionary, cares about quality, cares about games, and is not afraid to innovate. It would also allow him to work in the industry without fucking killing himself testing his own games thanks to his calcific tendinitis.

The only issue would be if Sakurai would even want to be president, but I think he'd be perfect. He's my pick.

I agree.

Also I think a fair few people might argue that the Dreamcast had better graphics than the GCN simply because of Shenmue, that game still looks great to this day especially through VGA...

Shenmue does look good, but I don't think that means it better graphics. Gamecube simply had better specs and could have handled it. Besides it had many great looking games in its own right. RE 4  looked incredible and I think F Zero GX was quite the achievent at that time. A lot of Nintendo's first party games looked great as well, and also still look good today such as the Prime games. Remember GC also looked better when played through component cable.

Xbox did easily beat all though.

I used to have a dreamcast connected via VGA and a gamecube connected via component to a Panasonic AE100 projector and can say in all honesty the dreamcast visuals were brighter, more dynamic and fluid. Remember VGA is slightly higher quality than component, component has to be slightly processed to get back a RGB signal. As for the technical comparison between gamecube and dc there were good and bad points on both sides. The GC only had 2meg frame buffer with a 1meg texture cache but the dreamcast had 8meg dedicated to video. The dreamcast used tile based rendering which is amazing and has doen wonders for mobile and tablet graphic performance by not rendering graphics that can't be seen by the end user.  Shenmue really did look fantastic for its day and while Metroid looked good its not really a game that shows off good texturing.

I can't really think of an open world game on gamecube similar to Shenmue.

Lol at people claiming the Dreamcast is more powerful than GC.

Shenmue looks like crap and it hasn't aged well.

No because they aren't interested in the core gaming market. The core gaming market has failed to grow 3 gens in a row. Making a powerful plat would not grow the market which is what they want.

People really need to let go of this notion that "Yeah, Nintendo can totally keep up with the power race" when it comes to consoles. Not these days, they can't. Not unless you want a Nintendo system that costs $400-$500. I know I don't want to pay that, which is one of several reasons I don't have a PS4 yet also.

It isn't just the consumer paying for the device, but that would be Nintendo selling their console at a loss. Nintendo has deep reserves but not enough to go all in on a device that out paces the PS4 or anything the deep pockets of Sony or Microsoft can put out on a regular basis. If the NX is released in 2016 or 2017 and is on par with the potential graphical output of the PS4 that would be a big move considering Nintendo's philopshy for console design is usually all about being smart and economical, with the few times they strayed from that being N64 (which still made them money) and technically the Wii U (probably their first really bad loss in years although it is slowly turning things around).

Nintendo is the most anti-technology technology company in the world. They have resisted all modern advancements in console gaming, from CD's, DVD's, Hard Drives, HD Graphics, and Online play. They still to this day downplay the importance of the very hardware they are trying to sell, to the point where there was absolutely no hype surrounding two of their last three consoles. There is no chance that the culture will change at Nintendo to the point where they develop an high end console.

I hope the next CEO has NIntendo and it's legacy in it's best interest. Nintendo is innovating and FUN!!! They have to stick to what they know. That's all I want them to do.

Innovating is a bit of a stretch.

He should make a powerful console. The market has shown that they don't want a cheap, weak console.

That would be shocking, but also exciting as fuck. I Wouldn't mind

The market also showed it doesn't want the Vita or PSP, handhelds that were far more powerful than the DS and 3DS. In fact, this is the first gen where the most powerful console wins (PS4). One gen is hardly a trend.

Not true at all.  Each console that has won their respective generation, was by far the most powerful at the time of their release, except for Wii.  Just because a more powerful console happened to come out later, which is inevitible due to hardware advancements over time, doesn't mean specs are irrelevent.

Also, each console that has won (except for Wii) has gone out of their way to hype the hardware advancements (bits, polygons, 3d, plays dvd's, online play, etc.)  Nintendo's marketing approach is more along the lines of here's our console, graphics aren't important, people don't really want the internet, but our games are really really fun.  Nintendo fails to understand that they actually need to sell the hardware to people to get them to play the games in the first place.
