Forums - Gaming - Where did this stupid "trend" come from? Game trailer reaction videos?

How is this trend new? Isn't that what the whole gaming media is about?
Watching people react to something is pretty much the core of today's media. Why do you think Twitch or Pewdiepie are that big?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I believe this trend comes from people doing that with movie trailers. I mean, who hasn't seen the video of that woman reacting to the 50 shades of grey trailer?

Now it's the same with game trailers.

I hope this won't last long.

Bolded: Me...until just now, I feel stupider now...

It's been a thing for a few years already.... anyway if you don't like them just dont' watch them, no need to hope they cease to exist. :P

Thanks for your advise, but I could count the "react videos" I've watched with one hand, and I wouldn't use all my fingers .

Don't worry, it doesn't last long.

I always took let's plays and the like to be more about people just talking over games, not necessarily about the games they play and that the entertainment value of those things comes from the stories those people tell, the jokes they make etc. and sometimes from the gaming skill those people have not from how they react to what is happening in the game.

With trailer react videos I'm literally watching someone watching a trailer and can then....compare if his reaction is similar to mine?? I mean what is the point of those things?

One of the few cases where I'm happy that a video is blocked in Germany.

To me, it's no different than anime episode reactions/reviews. It's silly. People make all kinds of vids to make a buck on youtube. The kids/old people reaction vids are funny. I normally do not watch any reaction vids. I like the fail type of vids or how to do it yourself type of stuff.

They're all incredibly irritating because almost all the reactions are fake as shit, nobody actually goes on like that in real life. Same reason lots of twitch streamers annoy me, because they overreact to everything on purpose to make them seem entertaining and it's so cringe.

Now fortunately I don't think anyone has gotten really big thanks to this stuff yet cause once that happens I think I'll have to officially declare myself to old for the internet.

This guy caused quite a stir on neoGAF after the video to his reaction to winning an Xbox One was uploaded :P

lonely people want to see their favorite trailers with others, Some reactions are entertaining tho! so I don't have a problem with the trend.
