Forums - Gaming - What would you do if scum people owed you and ran away

Last year my dad's condition gradually worsened and I had to take over all his errands. Unfortunately my defunct dad had a style of dealing with scum people and one of them were renters who never paid on time and were always in debt. They had been in debt to me since november and in june I finally told them to uck off. I'm sure they owe to others, I know for sure they owe ~200 euro to their internet provider cos I received a deb collector's letter addressed to them after they moved. They moved to some terrible ghetto apartment (their words) in nearby town but I never learned the address. They owe me 250 euro and have stopped answering to my phone calls. I want to take some kind of revenge, I deserve that? One idea is learning their address and pulling a match into their lock so that it becomes unusable and they have to change it a few times, I think that would be great. I can't throw police on them because my dad never signed renting contract, it was all unofficial. What would you do in my situation, would you take revenge and how?

If they can't pay and are broke what's the point of getting revenge? I know it would make you feel better but it would just make their life a lot worse if they are already at the ghetto level and can barely pay for anything. My family runs a similar business with a bunch of houses currently and from experience you have to make sure it's legal. Get a deposit before they start renting so if they don't pay after being late a week start the eviction process. You will end up not losing that much money because of the deposit.

Well, your dad has only himself to blame. He was trying to screw someone over, and got screwed over in return.
Karma is a bitch...

I would have never taken anyone without signing a contract and a deposit, and I would have asked a copy of their work contract and checked if they have a car, asked their bank account print out etc. Yes these renters were dirt poor, the most angry I was with my dad because renters these days stand in lines and it was moronic to take these dirt poors. But they treated me so unrespectfully, not answering my calls, telling in person that they will call me and never calling etc. But you are right, uck them, I should not let it get to me.

Get over it and don't hold a grudge. Be happy that your financial situation is obviously much better than theirs.

And no, you don't deserve the right to take revenge.

It's just money, and people fall on hard times. My advice is be the bigger person.

If it's only 250 euros they owe you I'd say forget about it and just be happy they are gone and you won't have to deal with them ever again.

Yes, I get this advice from my family too but it's the fact that they were so unrespectful that bothers me, and I had to waste my time and nerves on them. Now I see them online in social networks, like nothing has happened, I mean they don't even bother deleting traces. They were shtting me for months and at the end were whining that I gave them 'only' one week to move out. Sigh.

They are a family - husband with wife and two little kids. Husband is 44 and has children from previous marriage, I'm sure he isn't paying alimony, works some simple labor work. Wife is 32 jobless and is a snake, the first time I met them she didn't want to let me in thinking that I was a door to door seller. After they let me in she didn't say a word and was staring at me suspociously the whole time. I tried to be polite and asked how they liked the apartment, she didn't reply. One time in winter when their debt was already over 500 euro she was passing me 50 euro arrogantly, that time I told them that I give them one week to pay the debt back or move out.

Lets face it this is an issue caused by your father which may have been due to his failing health I don't know. He was at fault for renting to them. You can't really do anything as it isn't a legal debt. I used to be a debt collector. It was only for a short time in between better jobs but you get to see how many scummy people there are. They build up debts and live a fantastic life doing so and then get upset when they have to pay and resist as much as possible. Many will declare themselves bankrupt to avoid these debts altogether and they have already worked it so they have no major assets to seize. I've seen many small businesses that have struggled because they had faith in people and allowed certain customers to build up debt who had no intention of paying it back. This has hit their bottom line a lot.

Don't get me wrong though most people who get into debt didn't plan to do so and want to pay it back and move on but there are people that manipulate everything financially and don't care about the victims or morality of it. There are also those who just had a really awful financial circumstances and literally their income just disappeared and simply can't pay. I'm not criticizing those people at all.

True, but that did not really answer the question, unless your answer is to just deal with it or nothing.

My dad was the opposite - often too kind and honest, and some took advantage of that. Unofficial renting is very common here. My dad was afraid that he won't find renters, he always had irrational fears and thought that the worst would happen, and took the first who showed up.
