Forums - Gaming - When will Microsoft leave the console business?

I always hear people asking when will Nintendo leave the home console business. But that really doesnt make sense to me considering the fact they are doing better than Microsoft. Since the original xbox microsoft has sold around 122 million consoles and since that same time Nintendo has sold around 133 million and I believe their consoles sell for more of a profit so why would Nintendo get out and not microsoft? Doesn't really make any sense.

Why would MS leave the console business?

i think maybe maybe maybe ( i hope not) after this gen because of windows 10 i dont see any other reason for them leaving

Microsoft will be forced to leave once they buy Nintendo and then go bankrupt.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Never again.

Sega should do a Dreamcast 2 and the 3 current companies drop out and just make software.

I don't actually think they should I am trying to point out that many people say that Nintendo should and that it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to leave when you consider they are doing better than Microsoft since they have enetered the console wars.

Would be more fun to see a new player enter the console wars!

Like Sega :P or a real new player with no history

I think all three will stay in the gaming business but start to move away from the traditional console business. Steps are already being made to become less reliant on console. PS game library playable on other devices including non-Sony products and MS coupling PC and X1 together.

Microsoft has long been willing to sink money into the Xbox, so I don't see it going anywhere. This is more of a pet project for them, giving them a cool brand and face that they'd otherwise very much lack.

I think only is the likeliest to pull out, but the ps4 is proving so successful that I don't see any of the three leaving anytime soon. At the very least they'll use the Playstation brand for some streaming device.

They may never pull out of the console business but then again something could change in MS that forces them to later down the line. That's true for all 3 of them.
