Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft cuts another 7,800 jobs, takes $7.6 billion "impairment charge"

Minecraft...maybe MS could rework it as the basis for some kind of visual programming tool or interface, add in VR support, and who knows?
seems a bit silly though, I can think of better games they could use for that, BUT there has to be a reason to justify that kind of money for a (shitty to me at least) game.

What risk?  Sony taking risk are you kidding me.  If you said Nintendo I would definitely agree but Sony?  Naw Sony is never that big of a risk taker at all and if anything they have taken what others have done and added a few twist but only after those products were successful.

Are we talking about the same Sony?

Disc (PSX)
First to really focus on 3D (Sega Saturn changed for that reason)
First to have a hard drive
Eye Toy (first motion controls in consoles)
PS3 Hardware (Cell, Bluray, etc)

Disc (PSX) - using a cheaper format for their console was not taking a risk.
First to really focus on 3D (Sega Saturn changed for that reason).  Ok you are just pulling stuff out of the air with that one
First to have a hard drive - Nope not Sony, that would be the Xbox
Eye Toy (first motion controls in consoles).  Yes, EyeToy is a good one but then again where is it now
PS3 Hardware (Cell, Bluray, etc).  Cell I would say no but Bluray was definitely a risk because it jacked up the price of the console and almost let Nintendo and MS run away with that gen.  Still, it was more arrogance then risk as Sony attitude at the time was as if they could do not wrong.

Sony has not taken any more risk then any of their competitors.  After the success of the PS1 and 2 they pretty much thought they could do anything and gamers would just come along no matter how much it cost.  They got a rude awakening with the PS3 and the PS4 is the result.

Having a completly new control system for your console is taking a risk.  Not following what your competitors do and do your own thing even if it fails is taking a risk.  Just creating content that has already been established and calling it new is not risk taking.

So your saying Sony does take risks?

No, what I am saying is that Sony is not the only company that takes risk nor are they the ones to take the biggest risk.  I am arguing that only Sony takes risk in the industry.  I would definitely say Nintendo takes the most risk and Sony/MS about even.  Sony gets the benefit because they have better gaming studios but even then most of Sony high profile games are not big risk.

  Still a risk, unproven medium
First to really focus on 3D (Sega Saturn changed for that reason).  Ok you are just pulling stuff out of the air with that one
This is a well known fact
First to have a hard drive - Nope not Sony, that would be the Xbox
  PS2 was before the Xbox
Eye Toy (first motion controls in consoles).  Yes, EyeToy is a good one but then again where is it now
  It was a RISK

Your cell argument goes against your other arguments

Meanwhile, Morpheus is a lot of fun.

This is about taking risks, not being the first.

Wouldn't the 1st be the risk tho?

Being first inherently means risk.
