Disc (PSX) - using a cheaper format for their console was not taking a risk. Still a risk, unproven medium First to really focus on 3D (Sega Saturn changed for that reason). Ok you are just pulling stuff out of the air with that one This is a well known fact First to have a hard drive - Nope not Sony, that would be the Xbox PS2 was before the Xbox Eye Toy (first motion controls in consoles). Yes, EyeToy is a good one but then again where is it now It was a RISK PS3 Hardware (Cell, Bluray, etc). Cell I would say no but Bluray was definitely a risk because it jacked up the price of the console and almost let Nintendo and MS run away with that gen. Still, it was more arrogance then risk as Sony attitude at the time was as if they could do not wrong. Your cell argument goes against your other arguments
Sony has not taken any more risk then any of their competitors. After the success of the PS1 and 2 they pretty much thought they could do anything and gamers would just come along no matter how much it cost. They got a rude awakening with the PS3 and the PS4 is the result.
