Forums - Nintendo - What franchises make you buy systems?

I got PS2 because it played DVDs and I didn't have a DVD player at the time and I always liked gaming. Not sure I would have got back into console gaming otherwise. PS2 was the first console I ever bought myself, though I did borrow PS1 long term, and way back in time I was flatting with people at university who had a NES (or SNES maybe?). And I don't like Microsoft. But then I got into Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and God of War as the main exclusive franchises on PS2, and of course I had played Crach Bandicoot on PS1, so was well disposed to Naughty Dog. When PS3 came along I hoped there would be a Jak 3, but Ratchet and Clank, The Valkyria Chronicles and God of War were enough to keep me in the PS family. Now it's still Ratchet and Clank, but add to that Uncharted and TLOU as the main exclusives that keep me with PS, and hopefully an evolution of God of War beyond Kratos' story, which I feel was well wrapped up in GoWIII, albeit GoW:A was fun it was a side-track and rather unnecessary. And I still don't like MS.

Zelda is the big one for me. And now that Xenoblade seems to be a franchise, that would be up there with Zelda. And if Fire Emblem continues on the path of Awakening/Fates, then that would be in the "big 3" with Zelda and Xeno for me.

Aside from that, 3D Mario is a strong influencer. A TRUE successor to 64 would be an instant system seller. The Sunshine/Galaxy/World/Land series are influential and can tip the scales, but I wouldn't buy a system just for them. Having Mario Kart and Smash Bros. out or coming soon helps.

Specifically for handhelds, the main Pokemon RPG series is a pretty strong factor.

For non-Nintendo systems, Kingdom Hearts is probably the game that'll get me to buy a PS4. Street Fighter, Final Fantasy XV and all the other 3rd-party options and variety helps, too.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Souls, Final Fantasy, and to a lesser extent Persona.  I tend not to buy consoles that don't have those things.

If Halo didn't exist xbox would be dead to me.

Still hoping MS just cracks and releases it on PC....but that won't happen.

I just got an Xbox One like.... idk.... two weeks ago? I downloaded the MCC and wow, I could NOT believe how much I missed Halo. I've been playing COD for a few years because I only had a Wii U and a PS4, but damn... Halo is MY kind of FPS.

Even though I have all three, I find that Xbox... as a whole, has the aesthetic that I prefer. Nintendo has that childlike, innocent charm to their software. Sony has that Japanese flare to their games and IP, but Xbox... their UI, the way their software runs, the feel of it... just the whole console and experience from boot up to shut down, it feels like it was made for me. That's probably because I'm from the US, and their entire goal seems to be to design everything around the US male consumer, but still... that's how I feel.

Ever since the original Xbox, I have prefered their systems to the other two. As far as games though, I like all three. But yeah, systems go? Xbox is my favorite.
