Who will benefit more from acquiring AMD?

Nintendo 3 30.00%

Microsoft 5 50.00%

Sony 2 20.00%

Total:10

After reading the articles about MS absorbing AMD I have to say, if this is true then this is fantastic. AMD are losing an uphill battle with nVidia and we have no idea where they will end up in the next few years. With MS one of the biggest PC and Software brands in the world, having AMD chips built around there Direct X API and being built around MS’s laptops, Mobiles and Tower PCs this can change AMDs battle and making them a formidable force in the GPU market. This will beef up the competition with nVidia and Intel to produce even better products.

As most kids today don’t understand that MS and Sony aren’t in direct competition with each other. MS and Sony have been sharing products for quite some time now and MS owning AMD doesn’t mean Nintendo or Sony can’t use them either. Only there gaming divisions clash and that’s not really a big deal to the mother companies.

AMD will be heavily invested and helping DX reach its performance levels. As a PC gamer that’s excellent news. Having a hardware manufacture able to design their cards around an API will mean bigger and better performances. As for Consoles, AMD will still be sold but all that means is whoever uses there cards they have to pay loyalties.  Who honestly cares though, No one cares that MS pay loyalties for Blu-Ray just as Sony pay for Windows. It’s all a business and it’s great that these companies are trying to keep each other alive. Also Minecraft is sold on Playstation devices which the game is owned by MS and its clear, as long as MS makes money off it they won’t stop it from selling.

I believe the idea of MS purchasing AMD is to help focus on their DX program and since MS make a lot of hardware devices, it only makes sense to have a hardware company to help focus on its performances rather than MS always outsourcing to complete their products. Big things will change at MS if they acquire them. Their PC, Mobile, Console and Tablet divisions will definitely look a lot better with MS’s own GPU division behind it.

AMD are a very talented company, it would be a shame to see them go bankrupt. I still use an AMD 6970 GPU and it’s still amazing for its price and performance. For the price of (rumored) 1.9 billion to buyout AMD, this is very affordable for MS. Who knows, Sony might buy them out, because now there focusing on Play Station. Even Nintendo has a good chance since they all need GPUs/CPUs for their consoles. It might be a race but whoever picks them up will definitely gain great talent and a great company.

Hmmm. MS would benefit the most from it given what the company does as a whole.

The only one who benefits from a buyout is AMD.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

MS makes a lot of hardware devices? Hmmm, news to me.

Anyways, don't see this happening. Actually makes zero sense to me on why ms would need to buy a chip designer.

Microsoft make alot of things, Mobiles, Tablets, Hard drives, Consoles, Servers, Watches, Cameras, Keyboards, Mouses, Headsets, controllers, Hololens, Kinect etc

Having your own chip manufactor means they can design there GPUs around there APIs, that would make a massive difference in the final results.

I agree that there would be a number of obvious benefits for the greater community.  But, MS has a lot of strategic alliances that may have trouble with the idea.  All of their PC/Tablet/Laptop makers who distribute their products with windows in them might consider this another issue.  If these manufacturers use Intel, there might be some problems over time.  And INtel themselves could have trouble with the great "Wintel" alliance being two sided.

I doubt it will happen either way, but MS would make the most sense of the 3.

It is near the end of the end....
