Last Thursday during a shareholders meeting Nintendo President Satoru Iwata commented on the upcoming NX platform, stating that detials will remain a secret for now and that satisfying Wii-U owners is a priority. More specifically he said this:
“The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient.
“We will continue making 3DS and Wii software while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.”
Now this might not seem like interesting news at first, weren't it that he just mentioned the 3DS and Wii-U platform together as being replaced. And not just once, but twice! This means that NX is likely to replace both 3DS and Wii-U, pretty much confirming rumors about a ''fusion'' platform. What kind of hardware we can expect exactly remains to be seen, but unifying both platforms and their potential install bases is a interesting prospect to say the least.
Satoru Iwata might not have wanted to share any details about the NX just yet, but it looks like he just revealed the most important one.
