Splatoon is selling well because it's a Nintendo exclusive with marketing similar to Mario Kart. Nintendo has consumer trust and brand recognition with their gamers. 3rd parties don't. Nintendo pushed Splatoon hard because they needed a success. If 3rd parties need a success, they will push their games hard to their existing fans (on PS or Xbox). There are no other ways for me to say this too you, so I will leave it at that. Bayonetta 2's sales are not that far off of Bayonetta 1's sales (670k) vs (910k) vs (1.19m). It's not bad if you account for how much smaller the userbase is. You are comparing multiplat ports (with fanbases established elsewhere) to big exclusives (with fanbases established on Nintendo). I'm honestly not sure a more faulty comparison could be made. More apt comparisons: Batman Arkham City (280K) vs Lego Batman 3 (260K) There is no set rule with cartoony vs realistic graphics and sales. Sometimes it's appropriate and sometimes it's not. Making cartoony games will not automatically equal sales. 3rd parties need to develop a consistent brand and consumer trust if they want sales. It's no different than any other product on the planet. |
I highly doubt that. 90% of the Spaltoon buyer dont care/know if the game is made by Nintendo or whatever. Most console owners are casuals who dont give a sht about the developer.
Between SS and TP is alot time. Nintendo wanst focused THAT much on children at TP times. Wii wasnt marked mostly to children only.
Your comparison just prove it. A low Budget Batman Lego game sold 260k on wii u but a AAA Batman game sold just 20k more. You need to keep the marketing, "greatness" and co in mind if you compare sales.
See other plattforms: (ps3)
Lego Batman 3: 0,49k
Arkham City: 5,26mio
Cartoony games doing awesome on wii u. You just need to keep in mind that a AAA title will sell alot more as a lego game in general.

What makes you so sure about that? That FIFA was the first game on Wii (and PS3), but since you mentioned sports games... Madden 08 with realistic graphics ...870k -> Madden 09 "All-Play" (that name should tell you enough)....830k -> Madden 10 (which got WORSE) -> sales dropping every year. NBA Live 09 All-Play....220k -> NBA 2k10 with realistic graphics -> 400k.

Yeah the active wii user base dropped dramatically over time scince most people used the system as a gimmick for some month and then never used it again. because they werent real gamers.
You also cant compare wii to wiiu. Wii as used by ALOT different people. Old people, gamers, nintendo fans, children and co. Because of the complete new and innovative controller everybody want to test. Wii U is only used by nintendofans and children scince nobody else give a sht about a tablet controller. So the only reayl reason to get the wii u are the games, and games rated e are selling alot better as thoses rated m.
Fifa was always on playstation and xbox. People that cared about Fifa got a ps/xbox. You dont got a wii to play fifa, c´mon

You're talking about completely redoing all of the graphics. That would be incredibly expensive and time consuming, it would be effectively like making 2 separate games. Doing a port is so much easier, there is no actual changes needed. Maybe hobby modders can't do ports simply because they don't have the required developmental software/licences and it would be illegal. |
I doubt anybody would care if it would be legal or not, games like bloodborne would be already on pc if it would be possible. Development teams that are doing a port are like 30 men strong and need month-year for a port. Something a "hobby modder" could never do.
YES. YES. YES !!
I didn't buy the Wii U for "realistic" graphics. I'm fine with a cartoony style.
And I prefer MOTION CONTROLS.
Deux Ex is a perfect example of an poor port: why isn't WiiMote/Nunchuck supported? There is no reason why I couldn't use them TOGETHER with the GamePad (which could be tapped to switch weapons...).

Nope. Nintendo gamers CARE about the developer. THEY TRUST NINTENDO for delivering SUPERIOR GAMEPLAY.

yeah all the 10 year old kids care, sure. The hardcore nintendo fans may care, but thats are at most like 1mio people. the majoritty of people doesnt care
you are just mixing up the majority of wii u owners and nintendo fans that are e.g. here on gaming related forums and care about that stuff. but 90% doesnt give a sht about the developer. they only care about the game, how it does look mainly. btw. super smash bros was developed by bandai namco and sold great, how is that possible?
I read the title as "A way to make gay marriage succesful on Wii U?" at first.
(There was a gay marriage thread beneath it on hot topics)
Re texturing games so everything looks cartoony? Oh dear god.
There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

yes. realistic looking games will not and will never sell on wiiu. People who want realistic looking games dont get a wii u as their main console. Thats makes no sense. They get the system because games like Mario 3d Wörld, Mario Kart 8, Smash, Splatoon and co.
If Nintendo manages to sell a game like Splatoon (complete new IP) that good on wii u, every third party publisher could do it. They just need to fit the demands of the wii u´s audience. And this audience dont want realistic looking rated m games.
