Forums - Nintendo - Monolith Soft would help with Zelda U

Nintendo owns shares in GF so technically they ARE part of Nintendo. Nintendo just doesn't care what they do so long as they keep pumping out Pokemon every few years. Just like GF doesn't care what Nintendo does so long as they're allowed to choose what platforms to work on (hence why BW2 was on the massive-install base DS instead of the then-struggling 3DS).

I don't believe Nintendo is anywhere near a majority owner of Game Freak though, just like Sony owning some Square Enix shares does not make Square Enix part of Sony. Don't forget how much of a control freak Nintendo can be: if Nintendo had enough ownership of Game Freak to stop it from making games for competing platforms, you can bet your ass they'd exercise that power, especially when they need far more games than their developers can pump out

Well, I wouldn't mind. They helped with Skyward Sword, and that's my favorite video game of all time. And they made Xenoblade Chronicles, my SECOND favorite. So they clearly know how to make an open world game, something Nintendo has never done with Zelda. So seeking help in that department wouldn't be a bad idea.

If Nintendo wanted to control GF they can, as they already have a controlling share, that's the thing. Nintendo has sole ownership of Pokemon company (GF may have a bit of share too, I don't believe so though), Pokemon Company and Nintendo each own I believe 33% of GF. Nintendo therefore owns a majority of GF. But GF has never made a good/successful game outside of Pokemon, and until they do Nintendo is gonna let things happen. It's not worth it to try and cause a problem because GF made a mediocre PS4 download game.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I'm fairly sure it's the other way around: The Pokemon Company is majority-owned by Nintendo, because it owns 1/3 outright, another 1/3 through Creatures, Inc, and Game Freak owns the final 1/3.

It's a bit of both. Nintendo owns Creatures as well, giving them a controlling ownership of Pokemon with about 65% (apparently Funimation is in on about 2%). Nintendo then by extension owns about 54% of Game Freak from what I'm seeing in a quick Google. That really good IGN article on the Pokemon Company specified but I can't find that right now for some reason.

That's cool, Monolith, but it would be even cooler if you helped Retro develop Eternal Darkness 2.

Guys, this is the Kyoto software development group that was created in 2011 to co-develop games with Nintendo EAD.

It's not the xenoblade team. The Kyoto software development group consists of mostly young developers, and quite a few of them are female.

All they do is work with Nintendo EAD, so this news isn't new or surprising.

They helped with Skyward Sword, so why not?
