Forums - PC - Are the "PC Master Race" days over?

I never got this elitist Master Race attitude, and I believe some PC users takes it farther away than a joke. I just went to a Batman Arkham Knight PS4/XB1/PC comparison video and this guy commented on how he asked Steam for a refund for the game since he's running a GTX 980 and a i7 4790, which I guess, is enough to run games pretty well. I'm not saying all the PC gamers are like this, but never got this "my rig will only play flawless games since jittery games are unacceptable" behavior when he can just wait a few days for a proper patch to fix it.

Why wait for a patch that might not fix things or even come at all when you can get a refund and buy if and when it is fixed?  Possibly at a lower price.  The Steam refund period is only 14 days and 2 hours of playtime.  How often are busted games actually completely fixed within two weeks?  SimCity?  Master Chief Collection?  Battlefield 4?  etc

As for the topic, the state of PC versions of multiplatform games is far better than back in 2008 when the "PC master race" term was coined.

No if anything the gap is widening further. I own a PS4 and the graphics are inferior to my 2 yo PC and the system is just beginning its life cycle. 4K resolution and 60 FPS are becoming more and more common.

Steam data, august 2014.

Your the 1% :)

Fact of the matter is, a PS4 is stronger for gameing than most common pc gamers pc's are (avg joe that has steam and plays games on his pc).

A few months ago I was in the market for a new computer and decided to kill two birds with one stone and finally try PC gaming. Many of my fears about it being inconvenient and overly expensive appear to have been misplaced. Games have been running incredibly well on my Lenovo Y50 Touch. I typically connect my HDMI cable to my living room television and I feel as if I'm getting the full console experience. Not to mention that I've been able to pick up a ton of games for uber cheap on steam that I didn't get around playing the first time. This effectively pushed back my PS4/X1 purchase date as the few exclusives that haven't been released on PC aren't enough to tip me over yet.

The Wii U / PC combo has created quite a bit of backlog for me now.

Um, no. I mean, as long as PC's are still capable of having the hardware superiority, there will always be better PC's out there. Now, whether you find PC to be a more enjoyable platform or not, is a matter of personal preference, however, when devs take the time to utilize the hardware available on PC, it's undeniable that you can see the results. And for me, personally, multiplayer is just plain better on PC. But that's more to do with my control over who can share my online experience with me.

"Sony’s and Microsoft’s conferences were regarded by many as a total success, showcasing one great game after another, whereas the PC show felt the need to pad out its announcements with endless interviews and needless filler content"
"Next-gen users felt their money was well spent"
"PC users were just left in the dark with a mediocre show that satisfied no one."

The bias here is so strong. I completely disagree with this article. Get consoles for exclusives, play multiplats on the superior platform (ie, a PC).

PC problems get fixed much faster than console problems.  BF4 problems did not exist on PC.

Do you have the 860m or the 960m?

*edit: ps4 gpu is supposed to be faster than the 960m.

And  a laptop like that costs like 1200$ .

I got the 960m, it ran me $1099 at micro center. The sole purpose of this machine isn't just for gaming for me, I use it for some side contracting work as well. So the price is completely justified and saves me money in the long run if I can get by without purchasing a next gen console.

run away!

My main problem with console gaming is with the fact that you can't customize the effects an post AA. For instance I would like to have a mandatory toggle for at least those 4 effects that I literally despise and for the most part weren't present in previous console games :

Motion blur, chromatic Aberration (the new piss filter), depth of field (during gameplay, during cutscenes it's OK) and blurry post AAs. But the worst effect when too heavy, deal breaking for me, the one that for instance prevents me to play my digital copy of Shadow of Mordor on PS4 is motion blur. Ew.

You'll notice that it's not a question of power, and the game would even run better without those mainly cinematic effects (bar the blurry AAs at least have a function). Unfortunately nowadays almost all games use them extensively.

The consoles still can't compete with the library of games on my PC... hell I've probably gotten more games in one Steam sale then I ever will for my PS4 or Wii U.

The whole PC thing isn't going anywhere... if anyone is endangered it's our beloved consoles.
