Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: We're Not Interested In High End Specs (Hardware)

While he doesn't really say it, we all fear what we know it means. The NX will end up as the Wii U-2, a console with a purely 1st party lineup, probably a few multiplat ports in the first few years until PS5 and/or Nextbox arrives. They can still probably outsell the Wii U with it as long as they don't have an expensive gimmick that pushes up the price.

I wonder what makes haters like you so ignorant.

Even with parity, 3rd parties will not dev for Nintendo's consoles. The market just is not there.

For that to happen, Nintendo would have to prep the market for 3rd parties. Parity doesn't fix that.

Having said that, parity guarantees that people at least feel like they are getting a quality product, and Nintendo can leverage graphical performance to increase the appeal of their games!

Stop living in denial, hater.

You guys need to understand that powerful consoles bleed money through hardware. A very powerful console will only give Nintendo fans ammunition for console wars. Nintendo proved that they can be successful without having a powerful console with the Wii.

Matching the current consoles would be helpful for Nintendo in gaining some third party ports, unless the lack of 3rd party games goes deeper with other issues, which may be the case. There is the "how easy is to develop for NX" thing to consider as well.

If the issue is releasing an underpowered console for next generation by Nintendo (becoming soon obsolete once Micro and Sony release their next consoles) I'd say this problem Nintendo may face will be more due to their own choice of releasing too early instead of waiting a while longer when hardware will be cheaper and able to reduce cost for a more powerful console.

Where did the "Graphics don't matter" rhetoric go for Nintendo fans?

Except Nintendo priced the Wii U only $50 cheaper than the PS4. At the start. When it had hardware that was barely better than the previous cycle. And since people don't consider the gamepad a asset. That makes the price point invaild. If you want to sell cheaper. DO IT AT THE START.

A big lol at the idiots saying "wii u successor won't even match the ps4's power" or "nintendo doesn't compete" or whatever crap haters end up making.

Wii U's successor will be much more powerfull than ps4 just like wii u is much more powerfull than ps360 and will probably release in 2017. it will only be weak (but still obviously above ps4) if it has another revolutionary technology like the wiimote.

Nintendo doesn't care about third parties, and rightfully so. Third parties won't sell on their console no matter how powerful it is. This is the best route for Nintendo to take. Although I don't think the NX will sell that well.

you are a stupid troll, grow up.

I don't see why people would expect it to not match or exceed the PS4. Wii is more powerful than Xbox, and Wii U is more power than the PS3.

wii u is much more powerfull than ps3 but ps3 was high end in 2006. ps4 isn't high end from 2013, wich makes it much easier for wii u's successor to make an even bigger jump than ps3 to wii u.

"...sometimes we look at it just from the sense of offering a system that consumes less power and makes less noise and generates less heat..."

And offers less games :)

You don't need an arms race or to compete to out spec the PS4 in this day and age at a 300$ price point for your console equivalent. That's some Grade-A weak-ass hardware, the WiiU without the tablet is already a <150$ piece of hardware that can already do respectable graphics/visuals and that is built on 2010 hardware prescription and R&D. We've seen from Iwata that they are considering/planning different forms of their NX hardware for different markets, in Japan the NX should be a handheld with low power draw. In the States the NX should be doing the console form (with X1/PS4 level tiered hardware, which at this point won't be hard to fit under a 300$ envelope) as well as a handheld.

The point he's trying to make here, more than anything, is that they aren't going to directly try and keep matching or one-upping Microsoft or Sony since, in theory, that's hardly even possible given the status of the multi-billion dollar corporations vs. Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft can subsidize super-hardware if push came to shove, Nintendo really can't.

They also have no need to actually pace or compete with the competition in the arms race if they offer a cheaper alternative with respectable power, good software, and features other do not provide (like the mobile tie-ins which fishes for the far larger market than the contracting console, core demographic).

lol what? the GAMEPAD (not tablet) couldn't be increasing the console's price by more than 30 or 40 dollars.
