I think this mostly has to do with the character creator. When you have a character creator in your game all of the characters suffer from the blandness of the creation because of the way the assets are designed to be malleable.

If they want to use that practice on the many village people that don't stand out then thats fine but for every character? I hope that they don't make a habit of this.
