I still cant believe why so many people think Tony skater is so good, its really not :/

Yeah, I don't think people now would consider to be one of the best games ever.

This year so far Witcher 3 I guess.
But Star Wars: Battlefront and Batman are coming soon.
And still, new Lara is just around the corner

Probably because its not... some of these scores are just weird. And even if they scored high, alot of them I wouldnt really even call great games.

But again differnt tastes.

SSBU is really the highest game for 2014?

My thoughts too when I saw that.... I thought, that cant be right.

Well that shows how much of a letdown 2014 was. All of the highest profile games didn't do as well as expected with critics.

2012 - The Walking Dead: Season One (94)

What the hell...

To be fair to The Walking Dead, season one came before Telltale was releasing another game just like it for every remotely popular series in existence. It was pretty popular and did a lot of things right, not to mention the added boost from having a better story and character development than the entire TV series up to that point.

It is strange that most of the highly rated games live on a Nintendo platform yet Nintendo's dominance seems to be in decline with each generation that goes by. Personally, it saddens me. Nintendo are the only company that only cares about games, unfortunately, it seems their library is aimed at a limited audience.

There were nine times that a Nintendo game was the highest-rated of the year.

I've played most of these titles. Some of them are indeed my favorites, while others... not so much. Metacritic is a narrow scale that basically shows what the media collectively gave the highest scores. A high number might equate to an excellent game, but individual taste is arbitrary and can't be universally measured with a bunch of numbers.

Myself I dont really care about the critics.

What matters to me is if I enjoy it or not, often my likes dont line up with these critics scores.

I dont "usually" base my purchase's around what score, a game gets either (it does happend from time to time, curiousity is a bitch).

Remember, that was the year everyone was losing their shit over downloadable games, claiming they were now comparable to retail releases. Do you remember Journey? Probably not and that's for the best.
