What the hell...

Remember, that was the year everyone was losing their shit over downloadable games, claiming they were now comparable to retail releases. Do you remember Journey? Probably not and that's for the best.

I remember and yeah they were and are comparable. TWD was nothing special though.

SSBU is really the highest game for 2014?

the highest game that isn't a port/remaster or on mobile devices.

But ain't SSBU also a port/remaster of SSB 3DS? ;)

It is strange that most of the highly rated games live on a Nintendo platform yet Nintendo's dominance seems to be in decline with each generation that goes by. Personally, it saddens me. Nintendo are the only company that only cares about games, unfortunately, it seems their library is aimed at a limited audience.

There were nine times that a Nintendo game was the highest-rated of the year.

Yeah I am just thinking in regards to first party. Compared to MS and Sony, Nintendo appear to dominate metacritic. Then again, Nintendo don't cater for 3rd parties in the same way and most of the other high-scoring metacritic games are 3rd party.

And people act like critics are completely out of touch. That looks almost identical to most any "Best Games of All-Time" list, minus the pre-'96 titles. Nintendo really does put out the most consistently awesome games.

It is kind of confusing, but that is how Metacritic had it.

2012 - The Walking Dead: Season One (94)

Most overrated game of thIs decade.

Would 2012 GOTY not be Persona or Mass effect 3? The least reviewed version of the walking dead got a 94 but the versions it was mostly reviewed on only got 92 and 89 in comparison. Mass effect 3 should have walked away with the GOTY awards that year if not for the last 10 minutes of the game and the salt behind it. Should have still got GOTY that year even with those last 10 minutes but I guess publications couldn't grow a pair and go against the grain as people were quite upset with the ending so gave most of the awards to downloadable games barely worth a mention today.

The legend of Zelda just too strong though.

I added an edit to the the original post.

I have played all of those except for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Grand Theft Auto V.

Mario and Zelda thrice. Slay, Nintendo!
