Forums - Nintendo Discussion - being 'unique' has cost nintendo every recent generation!!!!

There a couple of problems with this theory. The primary being the gamecube. Despite the unique look and disc (which was more to prevent piracy, people forget how much money sony actually lost to piracy that gen) the gamecube was very much like it's competition it was also more powerful than the PS2. As a console it addressed many of the issues they had with the N64 and for all intended purposes was trying to play the same game as their competitors. It was also a bomb. Selling a few million less units than the N64 but having games and tech more expensive to produce. It's failure directly contributed to the decision to go in a unique direction with the Wii. Also the NES launched with a god damn robot controller which no one was doing at the time.

tbh if the NX is another wii u it's a no buy

Totally agreed wih TC.

Wii cost too much of Nintendo's reputation, at least for home console. Wii U is way too under-powered that almost no third party companies want to make games on it. Imagining making a game today on a console that is only slightly more powerful than a console that was released in 2005.

Think of it like this. I was about 15 when game cube came out and loved the n64 and wasn't a huge fan of ps1. Trade in n64 hmmm lets see shall I get ps2 or game cube. Looks at gamecube  ' wtf is this weird purple  toy that looks like a fisherprice thing that uses weird mini discs that no one uses!!! Looks at ps2looks cool modern sleek sexy. Nice ps2 it is then.

That's completely anecdotal though it's not evidence for anything. Also you have to understand from Nintendo's perspective trying to be like everyone else screwed them. Also NES goddamn robot controller.
