Forums - Nintendo - Would PS4 like performance be enough for Nintendo NX?

it should be a little bit more powerful and in a the same architecture of the PS4. they need 3rd party games in NX since we all know regardless how good the hardware is, game droughts and only exclusive Nintendo games won't do much. especially we are dealing with HD developments which has longer timelines to complete.

I think the real question will be, if people will be willing to purchase the NX over the PS4 or XB1 (if is the same price) but doesn't have all the multimedia features of the other consoles.
I believe Nintendo will end up going with an AMD 7th gen APU design (with HBM memory) for their next console

Not unless they have another gimmick/USP

PS4 will be considered weak in 2017 and third parties won't jump a system that is about be about obsolete in 2 years, nor will any gamers outside of Nintendo's core audience.

I think it needs to be, more or less, as powerfull as an 9th gen toaster.

When 90% of their friends have a PS4/X1, why would they pick up a NX instead of the much cheaper more established competitors with vastly bigger software libraries?

The whole premise of trying to compete with successful consoles 4 years into their life is a terrible idea, NX has to succeed/replace them or offer a completely alternative experience. Its like imaginging the Gamecube arrived in 2004 instead of 2001 as a competitor to the PS2, it would have sold less then 10m.

I'm not sure. I guess they could make it more powerful but not too powerful. They should certainly make it similar to the the PS4 so that third party's don't find it too difficult to make games for the NX.

IF they release it on 2017 I think it's easy to release a 2-3 times more powerful machine than PS4 for 300-350$

Its GPU should have a minimum performance of 2.5 TFLOPS. Or in other words, twice as powerful as Xbox One.

I'd love to see this but Nintendo's recent track record is going incredibly cheap. This would be the complete reversal of that. I think Nintendo know they went far too low in performance with wii u but I think they will try to find a way of designing a console that performs well on the cheap. Maybe something like AMD's Zen architecture APU. The gpu side possibly may only just break 1 terraflop but the memory bandwith and cpu performance would put it easily ahead of ps4 and xbone. This to me would be a good platform for Nintendo. It would certainly be powerful enough to fully emulate gamecube, wii and wii u for backwards compatibility. Visually it should easily outperform xbone due to improved architecture/bandwidth etc elsewhere. It would also be possible to do games that would struggle on ps4 and xbone due to their more limited cpu performance. Lastly it would certainly be good enough to do cartoon graphics like Mario World at 1080p at 60fps no issues. Launching with third party support and some amazing exclusives would provide a good launch.

Nintendo need to be clever at providing a low cost console with excellent performance rather than screwing over their customers with dire hardware at inflated prices.

Well my hope is that Nintendo go with hardware that is significantly more powerful then the PS4 and XB1.

Terrible idea in your head maybe, but can Nintendo keep supporting the Wii U with sales as low they are? Amibo is whats saving the Wii U at the moment will that last another year?

Nintendo need a replacement for the Wii U and to a lesser extent 3DS. The time frame obviously for said replacment is what people are getting so antsy about.

My personal opion is Nintendo shouldn't release teir next console until they got 3 system sellers ready for launch and not all aimed at the same demographic.

They will either go with something more powerful without anything innovative (aka 3d, motion controls, touchscreen, etc.) Or they will have something innovative and be just as powerful as the 8th gen, kind of like Wii u was with the ps3.
