Actually I think the Steam Box has less of a bearing on Nintendo then the rest of the industry. People do not buy Nintendo consoles to play the games on Steam. There is more similarities between Steam's library and the PlayStation and Xbox library.

Well, they did say they would focus on 2015 and early 2016. They`ll likely announce more things later down the line in future directs. They have done so before.

Jokes aside, showing what NX software they are working on, or simply announcing their plans for future NX software would cause Wii U software, hardware and accessory sales to drop even lower than their current levels - at a point where Wii U just became profitable.

Still, the fact that they didn't show any footage from the upcoming M-rated Wii U titles or other upcoming games such as Fast Racing Neo is inexcusable and beyond all reason.

I can't defend Nintendo on this one. They clearly threw 2015 under the bus for the future of Nintendo console whatever it maybe. No NX, no demon third eye, no Zelda, no further info on Universal Studio theme park, no big IP other than Star Fox which was announced last year, nothing new. Nintendo gave us the NWC to lessen the blow of how lackluster their actual announcements were. Oh well, here's to a killer 2017 line up.

Honestly, i think it is more simple.

For the first time in its life, Wii U has a pretty much solid line-up for the following months. Nintendo just wanted to use their best marketing opportunity to sell their upcoming games, instead of highlight over games far from realease. The problems is, everyone got used to new reveals, so when they changed the strategy, people didn't got it.

Also they probably thought they were past the point where they had to prove every month that they wouldn't drop the Wii U, which was obviously a mistake, just look the threads that poped up after 1 bad day.
