Forums - Gaming - Did Reggie really just say this?

That's why we...Erm..."love" Reggie though.

In all fairness that was years ago and what was shown will likely be out within 9 months. This wasn't a hype conference, partly because there was nothing to hype but also because they weren't talking long term.

Feel free to view this how you will and everyone will have a different opinion as to what it means. I'm not saying it's right or its a good idea, but it's what they went for and now they need to deal with the consequences.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Well, he's not lying entirely. Just look at Splatoon. Announced last year, and released the next.

Super Mario 3D World: Announced and released the same year.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze: Announced June 2013 and released the next year
Mario Kart 8: Revealed in June 2013 and released the following year.
Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS: Revealed officially at June 2013 and released the next year.
Mario Maker: Announced last year and is being released this year.
Star Fox Zero: Announced last year and releasing this year.

So he is not entirely wrong. X was planned in 2014, the end of last year, but was delayed, and was released in Japan already. Zelda was announced Zelda U was in development in Jan 2013, and then shone in 2014 with a plan for 2015. It got delayed. It happens.

So there is some truth to this.

Huh.

Not also to forget games like

Hyrule Warriors: Announced Dec 2013 and released the next year.

Fatal Frame 5:  Details announced April 2014 and released the same year, then coming to the west this year.

Mario Party 10: Announced 2014 and released this year.

And new games announced at E3

Zelda: Triforce Heroes: Announced and releasing this year.

Mario Tennis Ultra Smash: Announced this year and releasing holiday.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival: Announced this year and releasing holiday.

Mario Party Paper Jam: Announced this year and releasing Spring 2016.

Seeming the games the games taking longer are fewer than the ones that did release not long after.

I think he thought about e3 only.

loool

I do get what he means though. Nintendo's usual pattern is announcing games (except Zelda and launch titles), 6-12months before release. With the Wii U they were forced into announcing a ton of games in 2013 to generate excitement and convince people that it has a future.

So how is this nonsense relevant? He was obviously talkiung about this years E3 specifically where they showed a grand total of one game that´s not going to be released this year(in the west). You might want to check out how their stance towards revealing games changed since last year. This is obviously the main reason why Zelda wasn´t there aswell

Reggie:
"Splatoon, a new sort of shooter unveiled at last year's E3 based on an entirely new IP, didn't receive an entirely positive reaction at the show. At least not initially.

"Splatoon is a game that people are loving right now, but if you rewind to E3 last year, Splatoon was being viewed as, 'Yes, it's innovative and it's different, but the controls are a little hard and I don't understand the mechanic of turning into a squid and going through the ink.' There were all of these complaints. But now you look at the finished product and the satisfaction is huge."

The key to Nintendo's success, Fils-Aime said, isn't just to make good games, but to help people understand why they're good.

"For us, our goal is to make sure we announce the content, help people understand the content, but most importantly get hands on with the games," he said."

In a way he's kinda right. I know Nintendo does do the same thing, but they do it less than Sony/MS and this year they didn't do it.

Is not that mind blowing, Reggie is being a Reggie that's all

Maybe he's only talking about about E3? 3 of those 4 games first got  announced in the January 2013 Direct!

sony wins their console sales based on hype. that is how you sell stuff. You need to make people want your future titles in the making. that is how gamers buy hardware.

The funny thing here is that Sony has gone in the opposite direction with the PS4.  I remember someone, perhaps Yoshida, talking about how they learned from The Last Guardian reveal and are trying to keep things under wraps as long as possible.  Horizon, for example, is a 2016 game.  Bloodborne was revealed not long before release.

Everyone tries to hype their own products.  Some are just better at it than others.

Horizon is not gonna be out next year, you´ll see, is one of those games that gets 4 delays like the Witcher 3. I would not expect almost anything shown on the Sony conference before 2017, they have created an ilusion that hides the fact that they dont have any exclusive megaton anytime soon.
