Forums - Sony - Uncharted 4 is 30 fps

That link in the OP doesn't take me to any factual information, just a static page about with no info at all.

But I'll take your word for it. Is 30fps a problem in SP? I'd rather have a locked down 30fps than a variable 60fps. I think every console generation is always having to compromise between resolution, fps and graphics detail, because devs will always want games to look prettier, have better AA and have more dynamic environments.

Uncharted was never about precision and fast reactions. That games doesn't need 60fps it wouldn't make the gameplay better anyway. It's a gorgeous game to look at and most of the action is not controlled by the player so I'm fine with 30fps... most games are 30fps anyway, car games, fighting games and shooters work best at 60fps but games like Uncharted? Naaah!

Still don't care about 60fps so not even disappointed a little bit.

I do care about 60fps, but i never understood why it was even considered for a game like Uncharted. Focusing on pushing the game's tech, whether that be for better visuals, making the world more open, or making it more dynamic, (or all of the above, as seems to be the actual case) makes much more sense for UC4 than extra precision/smoothness (at last in my opinion).

I was personally expecting them to settle on a variable, but i suppose the end result of a lock will be functionally the same.

I would say 30fps is functionally superior if the variable 60fps sees frequent drops substantially below 60fps. If you're only looking at occasional drops to the mid 50s and no screen tgearing then a variable 60fps would be the bestter option.

I'm quite interested in the "looks more cinematic" statements. In some ways it could be legit, but perhaops not in the way PR folks have been framing it. A cinematic experience is one where picture quality is consistent, exactly the same frame rate from start to finish and every frame being of equal visual quality, no tearing, no loss of focus or detail. If one said 30fps is better for X game because it gives a better cinemastic experience from that sort of consistency of performance metric then I think it's a legit thing to say. And for games like UC with a very much adventure movie vibe that sort of cinematic quality is something for which to aim.

That is a little disappointing but the game looked amazing at E3 so I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

Good. Means I don't have to rebuy a PS4.

But the graphics in 30fps still look better than anything out there on the PC (your platform of choice i think), same is true for horizon and every PS4 exclusive so far

Yeah its funny to see how everyone was impressed and thinking it's just impossible to get such visual quality on console because even PC have not as crazy models, and there we are, exact same models as in the in engine trailer, maybe people are more difficult to impress now after The Order

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I wouldn't quite go that far, but that said I'll always turn my settings down to ensure a locked 60fps in action-heavy games.

The Uncharted games were native 720p on PS3.
