Forums - Nintendo - Why is Nintendo still going after the wrong demographic?

They should be going after the Nostalgic consumer.

The "nostagic consumer" is taking over the world, or at least E3. The biggest news from E3 is XB1 backwards compatibility, a remake of 18 year old game and new sequels to more than ten year old series. The biggest thing on Nintendo E3 was a "remake" of an 18 year old game. Will this industry become what the music industry already is? Everyone listening/playing the "classics" and ignoring the contemporary.

They did with the Gamecube.

Today, they really didn't come after me, that's for sure. Mario maker is going to rock... but come on...

On a side note, how many people have been banned during e3 this year?

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

You better not be complainingabout the puppets. They rocked.

Every Nintendo Direct should be presented by those puppets from now on. (I'm serious)

They have to be doing market research, right? Those 10 million Wii U owners are predominantly men between 20 and 40. It's like Nintendo has no idea who is buying their games...

I think the main problem from this direct is that they focused on games launching before the beginning of 2016. With that choice, we already knew about most of them. The only unexpected one on WiiU is this animal crossing abomination festival... which isn't really exciting. That choice killed the surprise effect. The other companies mostly showed CGI trailers of games without a launch date but they had that "Wow" effect Nintendo lacked.

I was also disappointed by the Digital event (except for the puppets) but then I realized that Yoshi WW, XCX, Super Mario Maker and Star fox are still coming this year. Last fall we had Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, SSB and Captain Toad. That makes 4 games (5 including Sonic Boom). If we add AC Atrocity Festival and Mario Tennis (people might want to play that I guess), we have more games this year than in the last.

yes they went after the older gamers with a purple lunch box.

GC was favorite console of all time, but its branding and design hurt it big time. The other issue the GC had was the Xbox. It basically split the N64 base. That is why the PS2 dominated so easily. Instead of one formidable (but outmatched) opponent like the N64, it had 2 very weak opponents.

Since the WiiU is basically irrellevent(think Sega Saturn) this GEN is back to where were were in GEN 5. One dominant console, and one formittable. The only reason the PS4 wont dominate the XB1 as much as the PS1 did the N64 is because the PS4 wont be able to pull 25-30 million sales out of Japan.
