Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 7 Speculation

I have one very big Resident Evil 7 hunch(not based on anything substantial, just a feeling):

PS4/PC exclusive....

Feel free to blast me if I am wrong :P

I actually refrained myself from going into the exclusive debate. There has been so many switches in the rumors regarding exclusivity over the past 2 years. Last E3 there were claims that the game would be an Xbox One exclusive and that it would be shown at E3 2014. This clearly wasn't true. Prior to that, sometime near the end of 2013 and early 2014 there were rumors that went into circulation that Japanese gaming media outlet (I don't recall which one) claimed to see a build of the game and claimed that it was a PS4 exclusive. They also stated the game would feature a new female protagonist and that was a soft-reboot that would be closer to Silent Hill. Something I elaborated on in my article.

I would not be surprised if Resident Evil 7 was exclusive to a single console. It is often true that Capcom's highest quality games are their exclusive titles that  tend to really shine when they focus their engines to a single piece of hardware. Right now the most important thing Capcom needs to do as a company is to repair their image to the core gamer and reassure their level of quality that the company was famous for.

Has anything been said about a Resident Evil 7 reveal at E3 or is this just wishfull thinking ? I loved Revelations 2, anything similar to that Im fine with, I believed they struck a very good balance btween action and terror on that one.

Yes there has. There has been tons of rumors regarding the reveal date of Resident Evil 7. It was actually believed and possibly intended to have been shown at both E3 2013 and 2014. Capcom once displayed interest in making Resident Evil an annual series after the release of 6. It is in my understanding that they realised this was not the route to go and that the series has to remain its standard of quality, even if that meant going back to the drawing board and once again reinventing the series.

It has been heavily rumored inside the gaming industry that Capcom has a release date of October 27th, 2015  for a major Resident Evil title. It is heavily speculated that this game is Resident Evil 7, a game which has been in development for 3 years. It is also possible that this game is a different title and not 7, perhaps a spin off or a remake. A full Code Veronica X remake was also a rumor I have heard. It is a little early for a Revelations 3, which by the way are fully canon to the main continuity.  Another piece of speculation is that the game may be a PS4 exclusive that will clash with the release of Halo V Guardians.

In the end yes, this is speculation but I would like to think it is more than wishful thinking. We are definitely at that point of time where a numbered Resident Evil release is due. Capcom needs to get this one right and my gut intuition is telling me that they are. I think Revelations 2 was a huge push into the right direction and prelude of what we are about to see.

Hey no problem. I think people will be quite surprised and have their minds blown when the game is finally revealed. I don't think people are going to recognise that it's a Resident Evil game initially, it'll be a very risky move on Capcom's part but I think it will pay off in the long run. One of the issues that plagues the series is that the games often appeal to the fans of  the series rather than new fans or more casual gamers. I will argue that this is a VERY good thing! Though it's rough because Capcom is known to get very greedy at times. Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 shows us what they can do when they are not greedy and have their most dedicated fans in mind where Resident Evil 6 shows us what happens when they attempt to appeal to the mainstream market. 5 was a special case because it was a fantastic game even if it was more action focus. Can you expect anything less when Albert Wesker is the main villain? LOL I think 7 will be a more focused game that is geared toward the long time fans and will bring the elements of Survival Horror back. Rev 2 sets up so much of the foundation canonically to allow Capcom to go in this direction and I can't think of a better villain to push the frontiers of horror than Alex Wesker. Of course I went into that in my article and we aren't days away from seeing Resident Evil 7, we are hours away! ;) Of course that is IF it truly is Resident Evil 7 were going to see at E3 another title. They could of course say it for TGS or the VGA's, and TGS would make so much sense from Capcom's perspective. Oh please no, I don't know how much longer I can wait! Q.Q

I speculate that it will not be on Wii U and also be a disappointment. I also speculate that I will buy it regardless.

I agree with almost everythign you said here, only thing I disagree is that I believe Revelations 2 managed to strike the balance Capcom has been looking for since RE 4, where theres enought action and horror in there, so if RE 7 is similar to that they could make the old school fans happy and atract newcomers to the series.

I refuse to read any of this because it is centered. Centered makes it not auto resize correctly on mobile and, therefore, very annoying to read. Please update.

I played the first game back in 1996 when it launched. I want RE to go back to what it was then. I didn't like RE4, and gave up hope after 5 and 6.

Wait I'm a little confused with what you said. You disagree about Rev 2 and that you believe that Capcom striked the balance between action and horror? Isn't that the general statement I've been leading on the whole  time? I would say both Revelations 1 and 2 did that. Rev 1 brought back the atmosphere and Rev 2 brought back the feeling and style, no ammo drops and needing to scavenge for everything. That is what I was referring to when I was saying that the Revelation games are geared toward their hardcore fans. Everything from gameplay, characters, and in Rev 2's case, plot. A lot of the casual fans and gamers who aren't crazy into Resident Evil were very confused by the story and setting of Rev 2. I've talked to a lot of people who said it was written very sloppy but in reality they lacked the knowledge of the series and what was really going on. They didn't even know that Alex Wesker was even a character built up prior to this game. So I strongly disagree and would argue that Rev 2 actually has one of the strongest and potentially best plot of the series to date. I also feel inclined to believe that it is really setting up the grounds for 7 and beyond.

Anyways yes Rev 2 should be the new style of the series. I actually don't think the old era (first gen) of gameplay would work anymore. I believe that that is now outdated and I personally find the over the shoulder view MUCH more intense. Not being able to see what is coming up behind you makes things far more intense and adrenaline pumping. However as I stated earlier I believe that the series may very well see a soft reboot and take on a new direction. We'll see today if I am right or not and you have no idea how pumped I am. Not just for RE but all of E3, BRING IT! (yes I'll be sad if we don't see RE but there is still TGS). Plus I'd rather them make RE7 the best game they possibly can and RE4 proved that the games are worth the wait! =D

Uhh... Resident Evil died for me with Nemesis. After this it had the same name but the game was totally different. While 4 was still good and I had some fun with 5, 6 was unbelievably bad. So my hope for RE7 to be good is close to non-existant.
