I love the horror genre despite the fact that it produces so many awful movies. This is an obscure little movie that got a lot of attention on the festival circuit and good reviews but is not known by the general public. I have not been able to watch it yet but was looking forward to it. Hope I disagree with your assessment once I finally do.

I love indie horror movies too, I'm not some kind of artless girl that was trying to watch something like "the ring" :p, it's overrated and I'm disappointed because I was expecting something more than this. "You're Next" still my favorite indie movie from the past 5 years.

Oh I was not suggesting you were artless. I was just sort of letting others who never heard of know what the deal on it was. :) Definitely disappointing to hear that it is overrated. I really haven't seen much in the way of criticism on the movie thus far. I will still check it out when I can but will keep my expectations in check. I am a little behind on movies and cannot recall "You're Next". I will have to check into it. Pretty good indie horror movie, huh?

Geez, I watched this movie yesterday.

Yeah... It was... Ok. I heard it were one of the best horror movies from the last years, but I disagree. It had it's good moments, but I didn't found it that scary. I got the "hidden message", but still...

I would give it a 7/10.

kinda off-topic, but have someone watched Asylum (2014)? It's one of the worst horror movies I've ever watched, but I think it was intentional. Still, I would wacth it again because I laughed a lot with the comments.

I was joking I love the ring :P. Yeah just don't expect much, but "You're Next" is my favorite "home invasion cliche" movie, the movie has a great twist and fantastic soundtrack.

have you seen under the skin?

not yet, is it good? after lucy I have some doubts about scarlett(she was great but the movie was just okay).

i personally wouldnt recommend it but its message could have different effects on different people i felt it was like "it follows" lot of priase only to be let down, lesser know movies that surprised me recently are open grave and byzantium

I am looking forward to seeing it. Will comment in the future.

I'm into indie horror films like this one, this is all about symbolism and not about what they're literally showing. the music is nice and the direction, but the premise and the story/hidden meanings, nothing spectacular like the critics are saying.

If what I understand from what you are saying and what the film is about hold hands together, this may be a case of critics praising style, perhaps? Style vs substance? Maybe there is some praise due to the fact that it has the indie background and it is competently directed and acted?

Maybe a lot of things are left to interpretation, like it was for The Babadook?

I pay close attention to how scenes are filmed, I sometimes get charmed about "how" one thing is portrayed over "what" is portrayed. Style can make me like films other people find boring. I wonder if this is the case here.

Thanks for keeping spoilers at minimum.

The Babadook was amazing, but here the message while hidden, the intentions are very clear. So I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high but beyond the soundtrack and the atmosphere, at the end I was like... "okay". without the reviews I would say that it was a cool movie to kill time. Something like The Guest (2014)

Wow! I couldn't disagree with you more. I really enjoyed the film! It was smartly directed and had a soundtrack that was worthy of actually buying and I did just that. The story was very cool and kept me engaged right through to the end. I also couldn't disagree more on "You're Next." I thought it was completely unoriginal and highly derivative of other better films.the only Wingard film I actually REALLY like is "The Guest" tho it might not be so much a horror film as it is a straight ahead thriller. Have you seen "What We Do In The Shadows?" I would be curious to hear your opinion on that film. But seriously, the biggest pile of crap all year? That's really unduly harsh.

Try to do at least ONE good deed everyday....

Wow, I never heard of it too, and I like horror movies and games too... Thanks for the tip..? O:

So the movie builds up through secrecy to lead you to the obvious.

This discussion is funny, with the way I talk about something I don't know and you being mindful of spoilers and not talking about the film directly. It is like playing basketball without touching the ball.

If you read the comments I said that the soundtrack is great and the atmosphere, everything else was meh, imo. Yeah kinda clever but nothing spectacular and not the best horror movie. "you're next" a cliche horror movie  with a nice twist and it's not trying to be something else, that's why I love it, Plus, this theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFuivL-ewW4 <--- Perfect.

What We Do In The Shadows? was a fun ride and i was laughing my head off the entire movie. Comedy horror is not my favorite sub genre but movies like that and shaun of the dead are great imo.
