I am looking forward to seeing it. Will comment in the future.

I'm into indie horror films like this one, this is all about symbolism and not about what they're literally showing. the music is nice and the direction, but the premise and the story/hidden meanings, nothing spectacular like the critics are saying.

If what I understand from what you are saying and what the film is about hold hands together, this may be a case of critics praising style, perhaps? Style vs substance? Maybe there is some praise due to the fact that it has the indie background and it is competently directed and acted?

Maybe a lot of things are left to interpretation, like it was for The Babadook?

I pay close attention to how scenes are filmed, I sometimes get charmed about "how" one thing is portrayed over "what" is portrayed. Style can make me like films other people find boring. I wonder if this is the case here.

Thanks for keeping spoilers at minimum.

The Babadook was amazing, but here the message while hidden, the intentions are very clear. So I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high but beyond the soundtrack and the atmosphere, at the end I was like... "okay". without the reviews I would say that it was a cool movie to kill time. Something like The Guest (2014)
