High budget marketing doesn't mean the product is good, just like a game with hardly any marketing doesn't make it bad.

True. Maybe marketing is the devil after all.

It can be. It not so bad on products that deserve it. Just hate it when it's used to mislead the public that their product is better than it is.

At least companies won't invest a lot of money into advertising a product (of any kind) they didn't spend a lot of money on developing, but I agree with you it doesn't have to mean it's any good. This delves quite deep into the world of megacorporations and organizations so I'm not sure I'm confortable opening that can of worms. But you're right, with enough money you can make people eat a turd.

Great to hear. Much deserved.

Funny how this game is filled to the brim with content but probably cost much less to make than most of the other big games of 2015.

It boggles my mind how much is spent on marketing these days.  More money is used on advertisiment than for making the product.

and afaik marketing costs are increasing at a higher rate than developing costs (which are already said to "explode") aswell - the problem is, marketing firms have tons of other customers even if smaller publishers aren't able to afford them anymore

well deserved. Hope it gets much higher than that or enough to assure a sequel on consoles.

People who complain, that game have some minor bugs should be aware that CDPR did not have such huge budget as Rockstar or Ubisoft. Personally I think, that with this budget Witcher 3 is pure masterpiece and I really hope that developer will show that great games can be created without tremendous amount of money.

Seriously, GTA V had over 250m, and Destiny around 500m budget!
Can you imagin how Witcher 3 would look like, if CDPR would have this money?

Good budget. When you think GTA invested 236M on last gen only, 32M is a miracle.

Gratz!

Speaking about the costs, it was made in Poland, if the same game would be made in UK or something the production costs would be probably much higher.

Shows that a game can be made on an Uncharted budget and still sell well. Does not require Destiny budget, or marketing. Just requires a little bit of both.

So hopefully CDPR is getting at least $60 million of that ~240 million revenue. Marketing will be a cost on the publisher so CDPR's break even is only $32M. So it's great to be in good profit less than a month after launch.

Destiny has a $500M lifetime budget, the budget to make the game that was released in September last year was not $500M.
