Forums - Nintendo - Retro (probably) bringing a game to E3

I hope it's not going to be DK-related! I was disappointed 2 years ago when they announced Tropical Freeze, so you can already imagine how  a Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong announcement would make me feel!

You wouldn't be alone. Retro lost a lot of their reputation with Tropical Freeze, and they will lose yet more if this is Diddy Kong Racing or something similar. In one gen they could go from being a revered studio to being seen as just another second tier EAD team.

DKTF isn't a sub-par game... I don't know why you're saying all this. Retro disappointed those who wished for more Metroid games, or something different, but the quality of DKTF is undeniable.

It is a very good game, but that's not the point. It wasn't what mainstream gamers wanted from the first HD project of he makers of Metroid Prime. Like so much about the Wii U, it was made without a thought to what the market actually wants. The backlash against it was huge when it was announced, and if their new project is similarly conservative and lacking in ambition, they'll recieve yet more backlash.

It's not Metroid Wii U guys, you need to stop expecting this at every E3 only to be disappointed year after year.

we should expect more DK because I feel Retro is Nintendo's call of duty developer. They're specifically supposed to make DK games only lol

They developed 3 Metroid games and 2 DK games, how that make them "that are specifically supposed to make DK games only"?

Which is definitely a huge shame. I'm not saying they need to work only on Metroid, but I would like to see Retro work on other Nintendo franchises ( other than DK and Metroid) and/or develop new IPs!

Yeah, people often misinterpret my misgivings about Nintendo's handling of Retro as "you're just bitter you didn't get Metroid in HD" but honestly, I'd much rather they make a new IP than Metroid.

And hell, if they did make Diddy Kong Racing, I'd likely buy it and enjoy it. But it would be an utterly idiotic thing to do in terms of their image and market appeal, in my opinion.
