Splatoon is a quality title. If you don't like some aspects of it, then don't buy it or go to school, get a degree in game design and make it better. I know I went a bit far here but sheesh, I'm tired of the complaints. It's a good game at least...play it. |
Complaints are what help a company do better. Remember when steam wanted to sell mod packs, and they corrected themselves after people complained?
Personally I have grown tired of everyone saying that "splatoon will be the next biggest thing!" every 5 minutes, but I don't try to put anyone down, I just try to tell people why I think otherwise.
I know how difficult and complicated it is to program in a team on a large project. That being said, I am a wii u owner, and having invested $300 dollars on the console, I have a right to complain when Nintendo is not making decisions I like. I can't just "ignore" the title because there are very few other options that Nintendo has given me in this dumb drought

Like many gamers, they usually don't know how game making works. It isn't easy whatsoever. If we could just understand that first and foremost. In addition to that, this is new ground that Nintendo is treading. They are new to this genre. And I'm not handing out Nintendo "FreePasses" like petty gamers think we are, it's just that this is something new for them and it's a great effort.
Secondly, Nintendo isn't STEAM. We can't compare the two because the development houses follow different philosophies and development styles. What works for STEAM necessarily won't automatically work for Nintendo.
Thirdly,I don't think Splatoon is the best thing ever. I just applaud Nintendo for making a new franchies in over what, 13 years? And it's a good quality title. I'm praising it for that reason. It isn't easy to be new and engaging. Especially when we are so stuck on not changing in the past few years in gaming.
If you feel that way about Wii U, get a PS4 or Xbox One to hold you over. Nobody is forcing you to only have a Wii U. There are plenty of titles on those consoles that are generally good. It takes time to make a game like this, some features can't be added in time for Nintendo to hit their mark. Delaying games usually isn't good practice, especially for a new IP. I feel that Nintendo handled this the best that they could. It's new, they need to test the waters, see how things go so that if there is a sequel, they'll know exactly what to do. Should Splatoon have released with a bit more content...maybe. Could it have had better online options...sure. But, we have to give credit where it is due. It's fresh, it's new, give it time.
